Did you know that that quote 'you are what we once were and we are what you will be' is a quote from a real world ossuary. Well it's the paraphrasing of these words in Italian. “What you are, we once were. What we are, you someday will be.“ The crypt if the Cappuccins in Rome, which I had the pleasure to visit.

One of the best things about the DCC modules is that most can be run in one session.

Great review for an all time great adventure. I've run this (reskinned of course) a number of times at conventions for Hyperborea, so I especially love the shout out that it's highly compatible with other OSR systems. I think a 58 is an apt score, as Harley writes enough nuanced detail where there should be an appealing aspect for practically every type of player that can sit at your table.

I plan on running this for my Hyperborea group

@@captcorajus hopefully none of them have played in my con game, lol. The cool thing is that Jewels is easy enough to tweak to fit seamlessly into a campaign. You and your group should have a lot of fun with this adventure.

Good review, Captcorajus. And a high score to boot, congratulations. Unless I have my monsters mixed up, I'm pretty sure the carnifex from time to time appears as a very hard to beat monster in the mmo, Adventurequest. I always wondered if it was an Adventurequest original. Now I see by you mentioning Jewels Of The Carnifex being a very old module I can I hope safely assume Adventurequest borowed it from Jewels. Thank you.
@robofeeney Жыл бұрын
Carnifex just means "flesh maker" or "flesh god/master" in Latin. It's been used in a lot of different fantasy and sci fi works!
@jamiemcdonough6548 Жыл бұрын
@@robofeeney Thank you, Christopher Feeney. Good to know. If a god takes human form on Earth is that god a carnifex? Just wondering.

I gotta pick this up right now! I pretty much exclusively run modules; not because I don't like to tell my own stories, but because I'm dog@#$% at making fun dungeons. I set up my players as members of a long running mercenary company (their first characters were the founders) that has found itself an unwilling adversary of dark powers beyond understanding. This little romp could be a great "audition" for their next generation of characters to join the company.

@jacobwilbers9852 Жыл бұрын
Same here, but a 40k carni with boneswords would be like 15th level would be kinda cool to homebrew, maybe a genestealer cult on a Comet. You have to stop them before they call in the hivefleet. Maybe the leader has a carnifex as a body guard.
@richmcgee434 Жыл бұрын
Carnifex is Latin, translates best to butcher, torturer, executioner. Nothing to do with Tyranids.
@jacobwilbers9852 Жыл бұрын
@Rich McGee I know what it means in Latin and it kinda does when they have a bioform called a carnifex in 40k the module might have even been the inspiration for the carnifex in 40k.
