I love the music, but I love hearing that Hungarian accent again. I am 81 years old now and my parents were from Hungary. Mom has been dead for more than 50 years and I miss that Hungarian "lilt"

Wow!!! If I had been there, I would have been up and dancing to every song. I am now 68 and still dance to Hava Nagila. Some tunes I recognize, and some are new to me. I enjoy a large variety of music and this is one of those styles I enjoy. Thank you for sharing. :)

Don't miss the amazing "long flute" around 36:15. Dual tones. Also "Ani Maamin" (43:50) and a havdalah song (47:30) are highlights, at least for me. and of course music to the classic dance called the "csárdás" around 54:00. and... (whew!) around 1:03:00. AND... the last song is from Reb Isaac of Kaalov who bought the song in the fields from a shepard. It's around 1:22:00. What a treasure!

You might remember that Hungary had a huge Jewish population at one time and most of these tunes played here are actually Jewish in origin. Did Jewish music influence non Jewish Hungary or the other way around? You're guess is as good as mine.

@@kukubau6620 I totally agree. As I pointed out to some moronic idiot, that many ethnic groups lived in the region and the music, dance etc is a mix of them all. Interesting to note to the so called "hungarians" here that are getting their noses out of joint about Jews and their music, is that the JEWS lived in the region long before the magyars ever got there. What the country was called has little to do with who actually lived there. Borders change.

Hi Ioan-Noicolae, the music is definitely typical of Gyimes (Ghimes) East-Transylvania. The small region is mainly Hungarian speaking, but the music and the dances are influenced by the Romanian culture. I was lucky to buy a big box of beer and make play the famous Blind Zerkula from Ghimes himself in the early '90s! Let me link a longer video . You might even find the song in that compilation. If not, look for more melodies from that region kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZ-7apyYmr53rc0 Miklós.

It's more regional music and the Jews were living in the Carpathians of Eastern Europe for at least 1500 years. There probably isn't a Pole living today wothout at least some Jewish genetics and many Poles ar enow discovering their Jewish roots too.

It is real and totally hungarian music, from Transylvania (Erdély, Ardeal) and Moldavia (Moldva). This folkmusic is never and none jewish. I can show you jewish (jiddish) folkmusic from the Carpat basin, with strong hungarian influence in melodies, for example also from Transylvania, see this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4Sqo5hja9Fmf8U or this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poGYpXebZ6iVe7M And, also known jewish (jiddish) folkmusic from South Baranya, I heard it by András Berecz. Jews have been a part of Hungary for a very long time. Just maybe (as indicated) it is hard to know exactly where the music came from. We do know for a fact who some of the composers were; some were ethnic Hungarians, some were ethnic Jews but they were all from the same place.
