What an honest heart wrenching story from a brave and beautiful woman. I am honored to have the privilege to listen to her Holocaust experience.

Fascinating testimony from start to finish, Zsoka strikes me as someone of immense inner strength, likely helped her in the darkest moments and helped her in her new life after. Her explanation near the end as to why she didn't want to talk about it, immediately post war, is food for thought. It was still raw, painful and very PERSONAL to her and her family, and she couldn't be sure as to how others would react anyway. She's not the only one who likely wasn't eager to talk in detail postwar. I only wish these were all closed captioned, as she can be soft spoken and the audio is not great. One theme that runs common is that the few that made it had a combination of random luck and quick thinking. Being a late teen or in early 20s seems common as well, both perhaps for not being taken away by the nazis immediately and for being strong enough to deal with starvation and disease

she spoke softly at times and the audio was not great. Closed captioning would be great if it were available.

Zsoka was raised a devout Catholic as a child. Therefore, in my view, she WAS a Christian, even if, ethnically speaking, she was Jewish. The interviewer seems to find this concept completely alien. And then she asks "why was it decided that it would be better for you to go into hiding". Hello?!
@Pommy19575 жыл бұрын
Yeah, devout RC until they needed help from the nuns & bishop.

I caught that as well. Interviewers do best when they keep their own prejudices or preconceived notions out, and instead just let the survivors tell their story. Each story is unique. This one was especially. That being said, in the main this interviewer was better than most.

She isn't "ethnically" Jewish, that's a non-entity. Her religion is Jewish since her mother was Jewish, a precept of the religion (not ethnicity) of Judaism.

As an atheist I loved her Testimony, a dazzling person with deep introspection, and I love that she was open to share she was an atheist. Her endearing dark wit, her intelligence.

Changing my comment. The interviewer got much better as the interview went on, started out pretty abrupt.

A very interesting testimony and a wonderful warm person. I am glad I could listen to it. It is not quite clear how her father, a non-Jew would have gotten into Ausxhwitz but of course possible. Seems more likely to me that he died during the war (44-45) or perished in Russia as a prisoner.

Of all the interviews I have watched, this interviewer is the worst-absolutely rude; talking over the survivor when she was trying to answer a question. Awful. Can't even watch it all.
