Agreed, ALL Jews originate from the Middle East. However, during the diaspora, Ashkenazim assimilated very closely within their adopted homelands and became European in their traditions and way of life. That is the only real distinction between them and Sephardic / Mizrahi I.e. traditions and slight variations in practices. Many Ashkenazim spent hundreds of years in cold countries hence they are predominantly fairer skinned. Inexorably all ethnic Jews are related to link back to Israel 💯, we are all one nation no matter what! ❤️

I think it's hard to try to put Jews into such a western label like Race. Of course all Jews originate from the Levant, but yes centuries of climate will change any pigmentation. Yet, some Ashkenazi Jews have similar pigmentations to Sephardi or Mizrahi. Hashem made us all different and I am thankful for that! There are also many Jews that have each parent from a different part of the diaspora. Even German and Russian Jews have a lot of distinct differences. The things that connect us are so beautiful!

I am Brazilian and although I am not Jewish myself, my great grandma's father was a Sephardic Jew. In fact, due to some historical factors, many Brazilians are of (mainly Portuguese) Sephardic descent, even though many aren't even aware of it.

I would say that what you're saying is more accurate. I think of Sephardic (Hebrew word Sepharad meaning Spain) as being from the Mediterranean basin; Spain, southern France, Italy, Greece, the Balkans, Turkey and north Africa. When the Sephardi Jews were kicked out of Spain and Portugal, they all went to different areas, the biggest being Persia. So I think the distinction is pretty small. I am sure their are distinct cultural differences.

Sephardic dude here. My ancestors were kicked out of Spain by the Inquisition, then probably went to the Netherlands, who sent them to Central America. In my mother's generation, much of our family made our way to the mainland US, but there are still pockets in Saint Thomas, Panama, and probably Curacao.

Hello, first you are such a pretty young lady! I'm a mom of 3 and a grandma of 4. I am a Christian and have a degree in English with a minor in comparitive religions. Although I grew up knowing of various Jewish folks in the area they were all acquaintances so I never got to know about them or their faith. So all I (and most Christians) know about Judaism or the Jewish people is the beautiful art pictures we get shown as children during Sunday school classes, depicting ancient Jews in Israel, all wearing long gowns, head scarves (like the virgin Mary's) riding around on camels, and living in tents or stone buildings. So to us it's all veryyyyy mysterious. About 15 years ago I met 2 ladys from Israel at my kids school function and (embarrassingly) asked if they had camels, and the graciously explained that Israel is now modern and they actually do have modern cities, homes, malls and cars (I was soooo embarrassed, esp. Because I literally believed everyone rode around on camels there, which I think is charming!) Later a different lady came to our church and said she was 'Messianic' (ie 'Jews for Jesus'), and I did learn some basics from her group about Jewish holidays which was lots of fun and helped me wake up to the Jewish religion and culture as part of 'us'. But then I came across Rabbi Singer of Jews for Judaism and he says everything Messianic teach is all misconstrued so I have been enjoying all he has to teach as well, and wow, so much to know. Due to all this (confusing though it seems) I have developed a genuine care and love for Israel and the Jewish people, and so at my house, we do a very minimal acknowledgment of the sabbath/shabbat and passover, and sometimes hanukkah, but nothing very deep. I absolutely LOVE the good food! The food rules are hard though, so I'll just stick with being a Christian with no rules, who loves the food and culture and enjoys learning beyond the things I learned so many years ago in college, which was not very much about this religion or culture since it's so involved. And my focus in college ended up being Christianity (an easy A) and of all things, Buddhism (only classes that fit my schedule), which is also extremely interesting and their culture and food is also a delight. I love learning and support Israel. Our doctors are all from there and we are so lucky, as my husband had to have life saving heart surgery. 💙 Glad to meet you and looking forward to learning 💙

Sure! I've met Sephardic Jews. I've prayed in a Sephardic synagogue, although I'm Ashkenazi. I've also met Yemenite Jews who have a darker, brown skin color. Some Jews are white. It's good to remember that Jacob's 12 sons married women of different backgrounds, so that their offspring could have been of varying hues of skin color. If you think back to Abraham, he did not come from Canaan originally, but from Ur of the Chaldees, in the area of what is now Iraq or Syria.

First, there are three major diaspora communities-Mizrachi, Ashkenazi and Sephardi. Further, Ashkenazi Jews do not “descend “ from Europeans . Israel is called the crossroads for a reason. I believe they/we were always a heterogeneous population. A place where east meets west like Greece and Turkey. Middle eastern DNA is not necessarily more darker complected than AJ. That is a generalization. Generalizations are mostly untrue and quite unpleasant. What is true of both AJ and Europeans populations is that our families look more diverse than in Japan, let’s say. There are lighter and darker individuals and that is the normal. My Japanese friend said that she could not believe how varied looking we are within the same family and “race.”

For significant portion of post-1948 Israeli history, majority of the country's population was from Arab or Muslim countries by origin (Morroco, Yemen, Iraq, Egypt etc.). The so-called Mizrahim constituted a backbone of the Israeli military between 1950s all the way to 1980s. Arab countries love to argue that Israel is Western collonial project, but they actually co-created it by expelling their millenia old Jewish communities.

Rabbi Kessin has a good explanation why there are Sephardic Jews and Ashkenazi Jews. We have a mission to take the nezuzot/ Jewish souls who were trapped in 35 countries/ Yismaelim ideologies and from 35 countries/Esav ideologies. We are all Jews(Judaism ideologies) and part of ONE Jewish soul. When the true Mashiach comes he will confirm who is a Jew and who is not. Jewishness is defined by Jewish law/ halacha from Hashem himself. Jews are to adhere to the covenant with the ONE TRUE G-d since Mt Sinai. That contract should never be breached and if it did, one can come back through repentance. If one refuse to repent, then he is no longer a Jew and is cut off from Israel.

They consider themselves to be related to Mongols. however, they claim Mongols of Genghis Khan time looked like them, but when the Mongols conquored China, they mixed blood with Han Chinese, and that is why today's Mongols looks like Chinese. I highly doubt that was the case. in fact, the reverse is true.
