First, I want to thank you for your humor, however if you read the story in Genesis carefully, you will realize that it was actually the "Mixed Multitudes" (Egyptian converts to Judaism) whom Moses brought out from Egypt that built the Golden Calf, not Israel. Next, I want to make it very clear that the Jewish people worship יהוה (Hashem) alone, and not any objects or statues, heaven forbid. As you know, idolatry is a capitol crime in Jewish Law. But you bring up a good question-why do the Jews care so much about praying toward the Holy Temple? In the Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 12, the Torah explains that the Holy Temple is intended as a dwelling place for the Divine Presence to be felt in this world. When the Second Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, part of the western wall remained firmly standing. Today, the Western Wall serves as an symbol for the unwavering resistance of the Nation of Israel in the face of its enemies, and is believed to still be infused with the energy of the Divine Presence to this day. So, to summarize, Jews don’t pray to the wall, but toward the Holy Temple, which is the dwelling place of God’s presence in this world. I hope I was able to clear up the understanding. @@EinSofLearning Doubt any Egyptian would convert to the religion of their slaves. Doesn't make sense. As far as praying to a wall, very often, the material objects will substitute God and the object itself becomes God. Anyway thank you for taking the time to comment and share your pov.

Hi. I hope you don't mind if I clarify this idea a tad more. The Mixed Multitude chose to join the Israelites only after witnessing the ten plagues that Hashem struck against Egypt and the miraculous Exodus led by Moses. Their conversion was not genuine, as they only did so to be part of the "winning team", which is why they ended up diverting from the path of God and building the Golden Calf. Albeit, all of Israel was punished for the sin since the Children of Israel failed to stop them from doing so.

Hi Mark, I want to extend my apologies for the behavior of those individuals who spat towards your brothers. Such behaviors are a desecration of Hashem and should never be tolerated. It may be insightful to understand why those individuals acted that way. As you may know, the Rambam (a major Jewish scholar) holds certain variations of Christianity to be akin to idolatry, like the idea of the trinity or that God is a man. As the verse in Numbers states, "God is not a man that He should lie, nor is He a mortal that He should relent" (23:19). In Torah Law, idol worshipping is a capitol offense-a penalty that far exceeds the severity of the spitting incident involving your friends. I am not defending the actions of those individuals, but simply offering additional context to the situation. Shalom.
