10:20 Jake Brakes: so the driver can better maintain control, we do not recommend Jake Brakes around snow, ice, rain or other inclement weather. While they sound cool, as a world-class organization, we are respectful of the motoring public, towns and small communities. Good luck with your new house and remember the 5 keys of safety! If you do add a seatbelt to your simulator, we like brightly colored seatbelts.

Hey Jeff, I'm an owner operator and have a T680. I personally drive with my Jake break on all the time. It turns on when you let off the fuel pedal completely. When the cruise is set, it will turn on when you get 4mph over your set speed, 5mph over will bump it from low to medium, 6mph over will bump it from medium to high. You have to disengage the cruise by hitting the foot pedal or turning off the cruise manually.

I love the realism Jeff! I drive trucks on the European roads for a living and I have to say this is as real as it gets. Drivers cutting you off, not giving you room to go to the right lane... we get that here too! As for the Jake brake, we call it an engine brake or retarder (dependent on brand you drive) and I use it pretty extensively. Keep it up Jeff, I am usually on CptCanada’s channel but I love your channel as well!

Hey Jeff, I’m a local class a driver and just started making ats videos myself. When I first started driving I would use my jake all the time, I had an automatic truck so it wasn’t a hinderance but it’s kind of annoying to use on a manual transmission. Sometimes you forget you have it on since it doesn’t work as long as your foot is on the accelerator. When you go to shift and lift your foot it engages, drops your rpm and messes up your shift. I only use it now when I have super heavy loads and I’m going down a steep grade.

As a real truck driver I just wanted to let you know. I drive a Volvo and it has 3 levels of Jake and all 3 are very quiet. Which is good because you can use them in no jake zones. They also have a feature where you set cruise control for the Jake brake say you want your cruise to be 70 you can pick 71, 72, 73....etc. for the Jake brake to come on automatically. Having driven all different trucks including straight piped Pete's. The Volvo Jake brake is just as strong if not stronger than a loud one. Hope that answers your question.

Love your videos, keep up the good work. From a I.T. professional, a water cool'd PC's does not do so well in "hot rooms" as the radiators depend on cooling from the room that the PC is in. So if you room is hot and lacks properly cooling to keep the radiator cool, you might want to find something that will help keep your room cool. I've seen a previous video stating your getting a new home, congrats. Now would be a good time to figure out which room/floor to out your gaming equipment. If your house will have a basement level, that would be an ideal location as summer/winter the basement level is the most "cool'd" room in a home. Peace!

Ironically I drive from gj to Denver a lot. If there’s an option, try grand junction to Durango Colorado. If the map is realistic, US-550 is one of the most dangerous truck routes in the world. It is called the million dollar highway. I only take it going north in a semi. It’s a road where people who see a big truck on it are wondering wtf you are thinking lol. Hanging lake burned in one of the fires this year.
@jfavignano4 жыл бұрын
my last video was on that!

Oh no, not Hanging Lake, that place can’t get a break. Years ago my mom and I were going to Oklahoma and we would take that route down into New Mexico. Engine Brakes (Jake Brakes) are an assisted braking system for 18 wheelers, when there is bad inclement weather or goin down steep mountain passes. That is when Engine Brakes are supposed to be used. City ordnances in most towns across America, will fine truck drivers because it is too loud for residential areas. Including using Engine Brakes all the time is bad for you're Transmission and Clutch. Using the Engine Brake at a low gear (low R.P.M.) will cause significant wear on the Clutch Plate & Transmission. Studying the Engine Brake System is apart of the ARC Trainning (DAILMER) we have to study on to be able to go to A.S.E. Schools to get our A.S.E. with my company, been a Heavy Duty Technician for years and my father has been an Owner-Op for 36 years.

I usually keep my jake break on "3" 90% of the time. I dont keep it on while driving. I see others do it but I don't. Think its driver preferences. I use it as much as possible besides in noise control areas. Saves alot on the breaks. Rarely use the jake breaks during inclement weather. Be surprised how much slippage they can give on the road. Breaking power you can "feel" slippage better with your foot. In a 13 speed I'll jake all the way to the stop sign and then use my breaks at 10-15mph to finish my stop. Every driver is different. Main thing with the jake break is they need oil. I find that using them more the more often you need to put oil in your rig. #1 reason jake issues come from are low oil issue and using them way over RPM than they should be used at.. itd be cool to see a model of the old breaking systems they had back in the days. Forgot what it's called but before the jake was invented belt tension use to slow trucks down. Requiring even more oil / another reservoir to keep the belt from breaking and well oiled during the tension.

jakes...(jake brakes) are used for going down mountains, to save regular brakes from glazing over, and losing brakes all together, hence run-away truck rumps on mountains...the 3 stages are dependant on severity of grade....say...third stage is for grades 7% and greater...like for the rockies, and some mountins in the carolinas...1st stage is for 3-5 % grades...etc....rule of thumb is go down mountain in same gear as climbing...and use jakes with around 20-25 pounds of brake pressure to keep fromoverheating brakes
