I remember "People" Magazine showing John kissing Carolyn's hand outside the little church, with the simple title: "Well Done". I felt so happy for & proud of this young couple. I’ve read several accounts re: the wedding and cause of the bride’s delay, and do not agree she was having second thoughts. Rather, neither the bride nor her friend who designed the dress, considered how she was going to get into the skintight “slip” style gown she chose-after she’d already done her hair and makeup no less. They finally put a silk tablecloth over her to help slide her into the gown after seams had been opened, which had to be resown after she was in the dress. IMO their lack of forethought and planning reflected arrogance, and making her guests wait 2 hours in the stifling church was incredibly rude. Though as guests were held hostage on the island, she didn’t have to be concerned anyone would leave.

I wondered whether “Ask Not” accurately depicted their courtship and marriage, as well as their individual personalities, and subsequently listened to “JFK Jr”, a 2024 oral history by his (and Carolyn’s) friends, and am now reading “Once Upon a Time”, CBK’s 2024 biography. My impression thus far is that CBK was always “trading up” in her male relationships, and that bagging JFK Jr was the ultimate challenge. He was used to women falling all over him, and Carolyn literally played by “The Rules”, impossibly “hard to get” and consistently keeping him off-balance. They dated previously in between his other girlfriends and while she was with her steady boyfriend, a Calvin Klein underwear model. After his mother died in 1994, JFK took up with Carolyn again, seemingly wanting to settle down and have children. They married, despite his sister Caroline’s and her mother Anne’s feelings they were not a good match. I believe had his mother not died or had he heeded his sister’s judgment, he would not have proposed to Carolyn. I’ve only recently read of the animosity between Caroline’s husband Ed Schlossberg and JFK, and it’s been disturbing to hear how the arrogant Schlossberg came between the always close brother and sister, especially as Caroline allowed her husband to make financial decisions JFK opposed re: settling their mother’s estate.

Couple years ago stayed at the Greyfield Inn and went to the church. It’s an expensive proposition but well worth the $$$$. The church is in a remote place and it’s hard to describe the feeling one gets reaching the church. Walking into the church my wife and I were like where did Caroline sit, where did Teddy sit, etc. when sitting on the impressive veranda I was in a state of awe like this is where the rehearsal dinner was. Beach is spectacular and the feral horses were very calm in nature. Well worth it for us

A 7 mile dirt road ride to the church in the back of a pick up truck only to wait 2 hours for the bride in an un air conditioned church which doesn't look like it has a bathroom. They had the wedding of their dreams but for some of the guests it was probably a nightmare. 😮

He tried to beg her to get one in Hyanisport but she refused so her stupidity killed her and her sister. I met Daryl Hanna at City Center one night. Terrific gal. He didn't marry her because Jackie hated actresses. Stupid

I still remember all of this, from hearing about the wedding, feeling bad for her for having to put up with the press, and then the heartbreak of losing them & her sister. Yes, Jackie would have loved Caroline & would have been a tremendous resource for how to deal with the press. Their wedding was the one that Jackie would have preferred to have had. I'm not convinced they died. I think there was some agreement that Carolyn required John to leave the US to get married. No way was she so dumb she didn't see how tough it would be. She may have been, or be, a quiet shy woman in some ways but she wasn't that naive. My big question is where did they go. Heck I even wonder if Jackie died that young. She liked Europe and spend summers there as John grew up, probably also in her own youth. I wouldn't be surprised if the non-Kennedy side just up and left. Why stay in a country that killed his father and his uncle, only to live in constant fear? If they dropped out of the limelight, which could only happen outside of the US, then they might have some chance at a normal life. Lots to think about...maybe it's all just PR for 'documentaries' and $ in the bank, maybe it really was a staged Hyanniside...
