When John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, he was riding in one of the most famous presidential limos of all time. JFK's Lincoln Continental X-100 had a short but notable history during the Kennedy Administration. But it didn't end there.
Wait until you hear about the history of the Lincoln X-100 after the Kennedy assassination!

Limo went to Detroit Nov 24, Dearborn, with the windshield replaced and the interior stripped. This was done at the Rouge Plant with a literal crime scene being whitewashed. The bullet trajectory could have been measured in detail augmenting the evidence being collected. It does not take a stretch of the imagination to know why.

It's not in a museum, it's in possession of the National Archives. Via the National Archives: "The limousine that carried the President was searched for evidence after the assassination. It was then cleaned and continued to be used for certain functions. The windshield of the limousine was removed as evidence by the FBI and the Secret Service since it had been hit by the third bullet. The windshield was designated Commission Exhibit (CE) 350 of the Warren Commission and as a Warren Commission Exhibit will remain in the custody of the National Archives and Records Administration. "

@@MrDrosteHistory. What about the Lambchop puppet in which the Derringer pistol was stored? Jackie shot her husband through the puppet. What evidence number is it? Jean Hill saw it, and mistakenly called it a dog she saw in between JFK and her CIA assassin wife, Jackie. Look at the bloody photo of the back seat. You will see the remains of the puppet on the far right of the seat, the side on which JFK sat. See it? Remember it? Look up about the puppet on that tv show I never liked.

And by Monday morning the refurbishment was under way; probably to destroy the evidence. If the authorities were really interested in investigating and solving the assassination, the car would have been studied meticulously for much longer.

There was a social club in Cincinnati at the time called The Coachbuilders. Consisting mostly of funeral home directors and professional chauffeurs, they enjoyed telling stories of custom vehicles they owned, built or drove. One night they met in 1964 at the home of an employee of Hess & Eisenhardt, headquartered in suburban Blue Ash, Ohio. Stories were told of a small, blood stained, piece of carpet from the JFK limo being displayed to the members.

Evalea Ganges, medical student, saw the bullet hole as an entrance, Secret service agent Charles Taylor Jr noted in his report after the assassination the bullet hole, Nick Pricipe, US Park police officer, had access to the limo in the White House garage, also noted the bullet hole. He was well versed in firearms as to evidence collection. George Whittaker, a lifetime employee from the Rouge Ford Plant was surprised the limo was in his work area, and he noted the bullet coming in from front to back. Limo went from Dallas to DC to Dearborn. Damage was noted on the chrome as well. PreDallas trip showed no damage at all to windshield or chrome. What results came from the limo's inspection as to bullet trajectory? As with the autopsy, the deliberate attempts to limit exposure to the body and, in this case, the limo made it impossible to get an accurate picture. Whether one believes in conspiracy or not, it seems hard to deny there was nothing very odd going on.

Several comments here about the car's different appearance in photos over time, leading doubts that it is the same car. One reason... the appearance of the wheels. Original stock Lincolns in the late 50s thru '64 were just 14 inches in diameter. The conversion to a stretched limo added LOTS of additional weight, and there were no higher capacity 14" tires readily available, so heavy-duty 15" wheels, tires and wheel covers which were available, were added. Initially, turbine styled wheel covers from the Continental Mark II were used, soon after more sedate looking covers from the mid-50s Lincoln were substituted. Production Lincolns switched to 15" wheels and covers in 1965, So the reconstructed car has worn that style ever since. It is the same car.

As the video discusses, the JFK limousine was actually owned by Ford Corporation, it was made and leased to the government for a token amount. Ford Co. had that arrangement to sometime in the 1970's for the Presidential and related limousines. After the assassination of JFK, they did massive changes to it, including installing a permanent metal roof. After a certain date, the contract was radically changed, given to GM and all such vehicles would be purchased and owned permanently by the Government for security reasons.

An interesting little detail to add: President Nixon and his wife rode in the then brand new 1969 Lincoln Presidential Limo for his 1969 inaugural parade. It is identifiable by its different and lower roofline than the SS 100-X and a its stock '69 Lincoln grille, taillamps, and bumpers. Inaugural parade photos and video of the Nixons riding in SS 100-X are actually of his 1973 inaugural parade. Why the older car was used the second time is not entirely clear. It appears that the 1969 car was not available for use that day.

If the car resto went as badly as the shooting investigation, that car would be upsidedown in a ditch somewhere right now

After all that obscene amount spent on it I get why they wanted to reuse it, maybe even the public would have demanded it. But in hindsight I reckon if it was left as is after the assassination it would have attracted more people to the museum than the current rebuild, maybe paying for itself eventually.

I use to live across the street from Hess n einhardt. We use to play baseball in the front lot workers would come out n play ball with us. They would let us down to the testing area. Basically the cars are nuke proof - we were allowed to shoot at the cars they were working on. We had a great time with everybody. Yea 12 year olds with guns shooting at cars… Hess is now bea

JFK- Both bullets entered the back in an upward trajectory the first exited the neck, pierced the windshield, hit the curb downrange, nicked James Tagues cheek. The second exited the right temple, hit the windshield frame, ripped into two pieces, fell to the floorboard. Both originated just behind the seat. The entire ‘crime scene’ was in control of the ‘government’ from C-130, to love field, to dealy plaza, to parkland, back to C-130, to Whitehouse garage, to Dearborn Mi. Where it was stripped and rebuilt. I suspect the ‘device’ from which two projectiles transited the president was placed and removed while the aircraft was aloft. How do you kill a man riding in an open car on a public street in front of hoards of people without being seen? Mount a remotely activated device, just behind the seat, capable of firing two projectiles from point blank range on a slightly upward (8-10 degrees)trajectory. Video synopsis of evidence generated in Dealy Plaza that day to that conclusion. Short version 6:31. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX-Tf4GYeqecm8U Long version 19:25. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmfOnYFmlpqcoq8

Not to sound morbid but that rear seat should of been saved, maybe not displayed but a reminder of what they did to him,I mean the blood soaked chair Lincoln was shot in is also viewable at that same museum. I highly recommend it as they have much of Edison’s facility there they have that car the chair of two presidents that were shot and it’s erry knowing both just wanted to make this country a little better then they left it even though both were clearly human and flawed in their own ways but that museum has much to offer and if you like history of all kinds it’s the must go

Pieces of the seat were cut up and sold on ebay 15 years or more ago by a deceased relative of a employee of Hess & Eisnhardt who worked on the car back then.
