John Kennedy is the historical person I would most like to have a conversation with today... I believe that would be fascinating. His intellect was superb. His IQ was as high or higher than any other US president, and he knew how to use his talents and his intellect along lines of excellence... He often quoted the Greek definition of happiness as 'the full use of one's powers along lines of excellence.' I think he lived by that, and I believe that he tried to govern and to lead America according to that...
@teenherofilms8 жыл бұрын
If you had that conversation you would have to leave out the murder of Marilyn Monroe whom both he and his brother were fucking in 1962 and because she came out EMPHATICALLY and said she would give a press conference the following Monday, August 7th and blow the whistle on Bobby Kennedy who had promised to leave his wife and marry her.

I've listened to several JFK interviews in a row. He obviously had some things he wanted to say. But he has a conversational style which suggests he really means what he says,.He doesn't come off as someone just reading stuff off a teleprompter that's been prepared by his staff. Nothing is plastic or canned in nature. He's not smooth. He's honest..
@ZolaClyde7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for uploading this interview clip. I just read about this interview in May 2017 issue of The Atlantic article "How Late-Night Comedy Fueled the Rise of Trump" by Caitlin Flanagan, who points out that not only is the 1st time a Presidential candidate was on a late night TV, but the contrast between then and now. As Ms. Flanagan puts it: John F. Kennedy was the first candidate to appear on late-night television, visiting Jack Paar’s set in 1960. No matter what you think of the short, dangerous presidency of JFK, watching their conversation could bring you to tears. At one point, Paar invites audience members to ask their own questions of the senator. “Let’s have, you know, responsible questions from responsible people,” Paar says, and I waited for the laugh, but it didn’t come. It wasn’t a joke. This wasn’t Judy Garland making eyes at him and telling Lana Turner stories and biting her thumb seductively. This was a chance to interview someone who wanted to be the president, and Paar asked his audience members to act accordingly-which they did. (It was a love-in about the commie threat, including certain dark intimations about Southeast Asia, but what are you going to do? Camelot!) As a huge fan of the late nite comedians who skewer & roast Trump regularly Ms. Flanagan's article made me think. And immediately search for this interview. I wish I could see it in its entirety. I'm old enough to remember, what I've now come to call 'old school Republicans' like my father, as as his liberal Democrat daughter we had some excellent debates (the man taught me how to argue properly, I'm forever grateful.) Trump not cut from the cloth of those men's (like Regan w/his positive outlook and refusal to run a negative campaign) caliber. Thank you for posting this video & reminding us of what sane political discourse (even on a late night comedy talk show) should be. And hopefully will be again once we have a President (from either party) who I brings out the best, not the worst, in the American people. A bit like JFK or FDR or Regan did. Thanks again.

Paar opened up the talk show into the conversational forum, and JFK changed the way we look at each other and setting an example of honesty and transparency that I wish more politicians would honor. I think Obama tries to do this, Clinton did somewhat. But its a different age. The mistrust of the executive office stemming from Nixon's direct misdoings have hampered our belief in a leader who stands for the people, and we look upon the new presidents with heavy skepticism, and that saddens me.

+Dani Said ..well Dani..I don't so much as think of the amazing leadership Donald Trump may bring to America...but rather the dismissive tone with which the GOP is dealing with what is at hand. You see...when there are suddenly so many things written..so much money raised..so much attack coming at Trump from literally an army of establishment warriors..which includes heavy monied supporters....it reminds the public just how slanted things are. It is with no great deal of grief that I might see Trump depart the political theatre..but to see him pushed and shoved by clandestine, hidden forces that have simply decided he is not suitable..possibly..and partially because he is self-funded..makes the process appear heavy handed..with no real regard for the will of the voter...no matter who he votes for. It's like dad taking over the steering wheel and saying..."ok son..it's getting a little rough..I will take it from here"...this part of the road is for someone more mature..more experienced.
@zeroceiling8 жыл бұрын
+Dani Said ....Hi Dani...I dont disagree with your assessment.....it is just the process that is worrisome. Indeed, Trump has played the media like a fiddle...but then..the media..has surely played both sides as well. I mean I dont thrill at what goes on at Trumps rallies...it is a big circus....however what I do mind is the spin towards the disingenuous..where as an example..Trump raises his arm and makes the crowd do an allegiance to vote for him...and NBC reports it as a neo-nazi salute that conjures up images of Hitler. Think what we may of Trump...but that is wrong and conjures up the images of neo-Mccarthyism..and touches of Marshall McLuhan. Trump may not be your choice or mine...but he does have a massive following..and to push and pull the process to a brokered election certainly has the potential to piss off a large segment of the population...and in effect guarantee that the republican party will limp into the general election. Its indeed a mess at this point.
@zeroceiling8 жыл бұрын
+Dani Said ..you know..just to add to it...I sometimes wonder what is more dangerous...the guy who states unapologetically what his opinions are..knowing it will cost him potential supporters....or the smarmy " I will be what ever you want me to be....just so I get into the oval office"..a type which certainly Ted Cruz displays to perfection... Again..not a Trump supporter..but...with all his bluster and over the top personality...we have to admit that many of us have known him for 10 - 15 - 20 years...and he has never stepped away from who he is...effectively he is a known entity...no real surprises here. By contrast...what do we really know about Cruz?....I mean..does anyone have a long term view of this guy?...because what I have seen of him in the time I have got to know him...is at best underwhelming and at worst..frightening.
@zeroceiling8 жыл бұрын
+Dani Said ...yeah..I know there was a brief exchange between Trump and Cruz about healthcare..and Trump essentially said.." look no matter what..Im not prepared to see anyone in America simply die on our street because they have no access to healthcare." To which Cruz immediately replied:...." yeah and I suppose you would have the government pay for it".... ...THAT...is terrifying....and pretty much 180 degrees removed from basic christian values...actually basic human values to that extent.. America does need to realize that no matter what..,when 40-50 million are uninsured and it is the number one cause of bankruptcies..losses of homes etc...one cannot default to basic founding fathers values representing life in late 1700's....to disregard this problem..specially given that on a per capita basis..USA spends more then any other nation on healthcare..yet has practically 3rd world infant mortality rates.

Who John Kennedy really was seems immaterial to me now from a historical point of view. What IS important is what he represented to millions of people, namely hope. I'm not referring to the empty rhetoric of the Obama campaign, all hype and little content. Kennedy filled people with the same sense of passion that inspired men like Martin Luther King and the president's brother Robert F. all of whom paid the highest possible price for opening up their hearts and attempting to prove that even the most unattainable dreams were actually within their grasp. These were lessons all 3 men tried to impart even while gravely aware of the mortal danger that lay among the shadows just a short way up the road.

JFK was a serious politician who took his responsibility seriously. His nephew is such a man. When I compare RFK Jr. to the others, all the others, he is far from perfect but he is a man of the people like no one else.

Kennedy was right. You can't force any country to follow their own freedom.

Is there irony in what he said that we cannot sell democracy but "... that in the long run the best asset we have is the desire of people to be free" and we then went to war to force them to be "free" in Viet Nam?

I believe the Vietnam war went from advising and training the South Vietnam army to full scale offensive military operations by LBJ not JFK.

Imagine the incumbent answering that audience question. Well, when you look at what's happening and you know it a lot of people are saying it that when you take a look at what's happening with Russia and when you look at what's happening with economy... Ugh, I can't even be bothered finishing it.

"Students are in a revolutionary frame of mind against the existing power." Words are very true, except people like Bill Ayers, one of Obama's best friends, is still a revolutionary.

kennedy had just turned 43. he had to play the hawks to win the centrist vote, even that wasn't enough, kennedy had to choose lbj win texas because nixon would carry california since he was from there. odd that texas voted for kennedy and california voted for nixon.
