In today's video I talk about the ultimate virtual pinball machine 4k and is it worth it. This particular virtual pinball machine build has many features. There are many different virtual pinball machines out there from many different builders but I talk about why I went with this builder in particular.
www.ThePinballKing.com
The Pinball King's KZbin Channel:
/ thepinballking7
The Pinball King out of Clearwater, Florida is who I decided to go with for my virtual pinball build. I did a bunch of research before I ordered and he seemed to have the best customer service, knowledge, expertise and price point to where I felt spending my cash would be justified.
There are many parts that make a virtual pinball feel realistic and the pinball king does not disappoint. Running an i5 processor, 1660 Super GPU, 4x transducers, 6x solenoids, analog plunger, shaker motor, 4" speakers and sub and nudge capabilities. I felt this was the builder for me for my virtual pinball machine build. If you have any questions, he is very knowledgeable, friendly and willing to help!
Special thanks to all the table authors, front end, DOF, freezes dll.

I have been in the market and am curious. How did you decide on this company over Rec Room World Ultra VP or Xtreme Gaming Cabinets which although based out of Australia people have high praise for their pinball .
@JMGENTERPRISES
@JMGENTERPRISES 2 жыл бұрын
@@PowerNGlory - I looked at both those builders. The Ultra VP has a 49" monitor which is way oversized. I wanted a virtual pinball that more closely resembled the size of an authentic pinball. The 43" screen makes the cabinet pretty darn close to normal size. Some people want oversized pinballs and that is fine but that's what I wanted. Also, Ultra VP uses lexan and not real glass over the playfield. I wanted real glass. They also don't have LED matrix or LED strips in the playfield which I wanted. And of course their prices are way higher than the pinball king. Xtreme makes some cool looking machines but I reached out to them twice. Once via email and the other via phone and left a voicemail. They never got back to me. This made me reluctant to purchase from them because I worried how difficult it would be to get tech support if I needed it. I feel like if it's hard to get in touch with them when you are an eager customer wanting to purchase, how hard will it be to get customer support? Also, I didn't want to spend the $1,500-2000 dollars for shipping. For me, the pinball king was just a better choice. Cheaper, easy to get in touch with, knowledgeable and friendly. The cabinet checked all my boxes.

I love real pinball machines. This virtual thing is cool, but I can't stop thinking its a vast of money as VR have entered the pinball space for only a fraction of the cost you get a virtual 3D version that is far superior to a screen. Try given this a try? the Quest 2 with FX pinball.
@JMGENTERPRISES

@@Descenter1976 - I hear what your saying. I have the Oculus 2 and the FX2 app. It is pretty cool. From what I heard, I am able to connect my Oculus to my new virtual pinball cabinet and use the flipper buttons to control it along with feeling all the solenoids etc. Pretty cool. Kind of like a mixed reality. I haven't tried this yet but can see doing so soon.

As a guy that grew up going to Pinball Parlors (which pre-dated Arcades) my first gut reaction to a "virtual" pinball machine was UGH. But with the variety of playfields, the transducers, and actuator feedback....this seems pretty cool. Thanks for sharing this!

I’m real big on the idea of having a functioning coin slot on the dream-rig I hope to eventually get. With every table imaginable at your disposal, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and take it all for granted. Being limited to the number of quarters I can acquire throughout the day makes me enjoy my limited time with the tables like when I was a kid and every turn at the table was a treat to be savored. The unlimited access we enjoy today makes most of us fail to even enjoy one table properly. In a way, it was better being limited to whatever single table your local pizza shop had. Cause you’d give it the time it deserves and learn all of its secrets.

The physics simulation is absolutely incredible nowadays. Some pinball games that are marketed for pc gamers, like "pinball fx", can feel a little unrealistic (and it tends to make the experience much easier), but visual pinball (VPX) that most of these machines run, is very accurate. They behave incredibly realistically.

I love it. I built mine and when you play it you do forget that it’s virtual. I owned a Adams Family, Star Trek Next Generation, Indiana Jones and Judge Dredd real pins. I sold them all and just have my virtual now. I built it in a 70’s cabinet and restored the original art work. You can see videos of it on my KZbin channel. I have updated the software front end on it since the videos I have posted. It gets more compliments and interest than the real pins I had.

First off, great video. You did a stellar job and seem like a great guy. Should have mentioned your MM you paid 8k for us probably worth 12-14 now. One thing that’s a sore spot for the table creators are guys like the pinball king that package up our software we work for free on (sometimes for years) and profit off it. Even the front end that table uses wasn’t meant to be sold. I helped create several of the tables on your machine. The stranger things on there isn’t a real pin, it’s an original by my friend Scotty wic. Took him a year but was never meant to be sold. Anyway, enjoy, it is a fun hobby. You can hook VR Headset up to it to make it even more real. That’s a game changer

This is an amazing pinball game! The 4K screen is unbelievably vivid in its wonderful display of the playing field. I grew up in the pre-video era and I would spend fistfuls of quarters at an arcade full of banks of pinball machines. I first got hooked on pinball in my native New England when I played pinball at Ocean Beach Park in New London. That was in 1972. Pinball was banned in New York City(!) until 1976. Anyhow, back to this virtual pinball game. It would be interesting if an arcade or entertainment center featured these intriguing machines, considering the vivid displays, a superb selection of games, and the low maintenance. Looks fun, but having played one, I'm convinced the real thing is never going to be replaced. If they can get 3D to work better it might make some more converts. I heard someone was experimenting with Xbox's Kinect technology to track your head and adjust the position of the playfield accordingly. If that can be perfected, I would definitely like to give it another go. The other hang-up I have is that the screen refresh is too low. It needs to be 120Hz or better for the ball movement to look more realistic. Some people use ball trails to make up for the stilted look of the ball travelling at higher speeds, but that just reminds you you're not playing a real pinball machine. When you pulled the plunger, the delayed response on the monitor tells me the processor is not fast enough. Looks like people are definitely working out these problems though, so I'm looking forward to what they come up with in a few years.

Great points about refresh rate. The issue will not only be in having a display with native 120Hz, but the games will need to support 120fps too. Not sure the game developers had higher than 60fps in mind. Fortunately, the 1660ti GPU may be able to handle 120fps with mostly static pinball. I believe what you are referring to with the plunger is input lag, which would mostly be the display’s fault. So getting a native 120Hz display with low input lag will likely add a few hundred dollars.

$4000 AUD sounds pretty reasonable. As does 1080 games! Do they have a showroom where you can perhaps play it before you purchase it? 3/4 cabinets are considerably smaller than the original pinballs. I guess that could be good if you are trying to save space and/or costs. But I would think it would take slightly away from the original feeling of a full size cabinet. Another option would be to look into a Pinsim which is used for VR pinball but still feels real. Look up PinSims on KZbin and you will see what they are! Best of luck on what you decide on :-)

@@JMGENTERPRISES From what Ive read, face tracking isnt widely supported, it was something one of the programmers tried with an xbox connect hooked up to the pc, but only worked on a couple tables and never got developed any farther. What you should really consider, though you may have to upgrade your video card again, its borderline close enough specs for it, is adding vr support. Thats available for most of the tables from what my research has told me. While Ive never played a virtual pin, or one in vr yet, I play other games in vr all the time and its amazing. Add in the tactile feedback from your table and the actual physical buttons and table to lean against, I bet it will be as close to real pinball as you can get. I had considered building a virtual pin awhile ago back when I had a t2 table, but kind of forgot about it. Now that they support vr Ive gotten really interested in building one again in the next year or so.

The GPU is not what makes it "load" quick, that's the SSD hard drive. The GPU is the clarity, crispness and responsiveness of the displays (the displays themselves obviously contribute). Just saying it's an i5 doesn't mean much as i3/i5/i7 have a lot of generations now, could be 12 years old and have 8 GB of sub 2000mhz DDR3 ram inside. I'm not sure if you have access to the operating system or not ;but if you do I'd check the display resolution myself to verify it's actually set to 4k, also getting performance stats (fps,cpu usage/temp, gpu usage/temp) included in the video would do a good job of showing people how the unit is performing. Build quality is nice enough ;but for what they charge for those units showing viewers what's actually under the hood and how it performs statistically would be a good.

I spoke with many of the pinball kings other clients and they have had their games for years without issues. Michael is pretty friendly and I am sure would help diagnose and help with repairs. 4 - I recently purchased and installed 99 new FX3 tables. I would give Michael a call and he can help answer this question better. Let him know Jeff sent ya :-) 5 - Yes it does tilt. I show this in my video. I do not know if it is adjustable. 6 - The only thing I suppose I dislike if I had to choose is the flipper buttons are about 1/2" lower on the virtual pinball versus the my real pinball. I guess I am just use to the location on my real pinball, so I had to get use to the new flipper locations. But not a big deal. I may install a "blockanator" shield that prevents the LED matrix from being reflected on the playfield at the top. I know the LED matrix can be lowered in brightness as well as turned off completely, but I like it very bright!

It may be a gimmick, but it has basically all the polish you could ever ask for. At least in the hardware. The screen and the software would be my focus for nitpicks. 4K at that size and distance is low enough that you can still see pixels, especially if the output is 4:2:0 which I pretty much assume it is. I also assume this is 60Hz, and that's not good enough for pinball. We can do 120Hz so let's have it. Last but not least, it's mostly just the ball moving around so why can't we get motion blur?
@JMGENTERPRISES
@JMGENTERPRISES 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you know your stuff! I played a Vpin with 120hz and could honestly not tell the difference. But perhaps I don't have the eye for it. Are you talking about motion blur for the ball? I notice on the FX3 pinball tables on my machine, the ball blurs and has a tail when it's moving around the playfield. Definitely makes its easier to follow when it's moving fast.
@Asterra2
@Asterra2 2 жыл бұрын
@@JMGENTERPRISES Yes, motion blur is important for fast-moving objects, which a pinball manifestly is. It's a low priority effect and its use tends to depend on the genre-a top-tier first-person shooter will use it because in 2020+ it will look like the devs shortchanged you otherwise, for example. But just a ball moving around? There's no excuse not to have it other than simple oversight. Nothing would improve the illusion more in this case than to add the missing blur. 120Hz is important in two ways. First, it reduces (by 50%) the amount of blur you need to use to achieve a proper non-digital look. Players will be following the ball with their eyes; the more blur is in every frame, the less like a *ball* the ball will look. Second, it also reduces the minimum theoretical latency between input (paddles, bumping) and feedback, again by half. The difference is measured in milliseconds and that temps people to scoff, but the brutal reality is that you *will* miss your timing by those 8ms now and again due to the latency, and keeping the latency low *will* reduce those instances.

Don't know if you're aware but there's actually a legal issue or two here. Most of the tables (at least the ones that are copies of real ones) use copywritten artwork and ROM software files. The majority of the copywrite owners are willing to turn a blind eye as long as the artwork/ROMs are used non-commercially since real pinball machines aren't a big money-spinner anymore, but the more people who make and sell them commercially with the software & tables pre-installed the more likely the software owners are to kick up a stink. We're already seeing it with the old Gottleib tables (most sites won't distribute their ROM files anymore for fear of reprisals) and Stern are still very protective of their newer products. Also a lot of the authors who've created the vPin tables do so on the strict condition that they remain non-commercial and they do get upset at others profitting from their efforts while the creators get nothing in return (and who can blame them?). Don't get me wrong here, I have a vPin myself (though I made it myself) and I do really like to see others getting into it as I really feel the old pinball games need to be kept alive in some manner so I'm not trying to say "don't do it" by any means... but the legal issue is important too. What's the answer? I really don't know. Not everyone has the skills or desire to make their own vPin (mine took over six months, a huge learning curve, and lots of hard work) or even to download and install the games themselves on an "uninstalled" vPin, but these are the only ways to not run foul of the non-commercial restrictions. Either way, glad you're enjoying the vPin as much as I enjoy mine.

Very nice. Just started to collect my games because I just discovered this world last weekend. I still can´t afford a setup like this, but fortunatly in the future I think prices for 4k TV´s and computer hardware wouldn´t increase as much, as the pinballs are "more simple" than current market games and I think in 5 years I can make it.

Awesome you are getting into the hobby! I am sure prices will also drop once Covid settles down. GPU prices are through the rood and so is other computer hardware. Hope you are able to get a cabinet one day!

Wow. That’s gorgeous. Can you get it with a head tracking 3D screen and a functional coin slot? Edit: oh wait… is that a real coin slot I see on yours? I totally want to have to pay for my playtime. It’ll make me appreciate it more if I can only play with the quarters I naturally accumulate throughout my day.

Mine does not have head tracking. But I heard that is coming one day and some have even figured out to do it themselves. Mine does not have a real coin slot. That would be cool too! Would add some immersion for sure!

This is really cool. Was looking at some vids of old MS-DOS era games, and one in particular came up that i loved as a kid growing up. Epic Pinball. And as i was watching i had this idea that it would be really cool if you made a fullsized pinball machine with a LCD screen where you could switch out virtual playfields. And i figured someone else must have had this very idea, so quick search and i was pleasantly surprised to find this vid 😃 But man, this thing really went out of it's way to simulate a real machine.

used to play medeval madness at The 5points sister bar on lower queen ann The Mecca Cafe' and bar. Shorty's had it for a little bit too. Georgetown never had it. I have an Ultra VP 40" 4k virtual pin with 1,000 tables on it from recroom world in Grove City, Ohio. I also have a Williams Whitewater authentic real pintable.

I love Whitewater! I actually played that the other day at my buddies friends warehouse near Georgetown. He has a small collection of 5-6 tables. How long have you had the Ultra VP pin for? I actually went to Georgetown the other day to go to the pinball bar there but it closed down :-(

I’m sorry but this isn’t a real pinball machine. It’s just a cold oversized iPhone. I’m just glad that the fans of actual pinball will never settle for this A.I block of ice. No disrespect to you my friend but this in no way captures the magic of an actual pin.

I made a video comparing virtual to real pinball. Yes, virtual by no means will ever beat a real pinball. But for the price and amount of tables it can play, it is better for many than purchasing numerous real pinballs machines. I would say virtual is at least 80% as real and requires no maintenance which is awesome. I am sure with time, the realism will get even better.

Does the led matrix underneath the dot matrix distract or reflect off the glass making it so you can't see? Are the USB ports on the computer easily accessible if one wanted to add new tables onto the machine? When you turn it on from being completely off, is there one switch that turns on everything, the pc, the displays? Was it ready to play out of the box or does it need a lot of startup work?
@JMGENTERPRISES
@JMGENTERPRISES Жыл бұрын
On certain tables the matrix can cause some glare. I ordered a deflector shield that is suppose to eliminate this but have not yet installed it. The USB ports on my PC are in the front and easily accessible. Currently to power on my machine, I plug it in, push the power button on my PC then turn on each of two monitors. Takes about 10 seconds to do it all. I am sure there is a way to have it all turn on at the same time but I have not looked into it.

Interesting. As a pc gamer, i can immediately notice some frame dips while the ball was in play. But before the ball was moving, i could of sworn it was a real pinball machine. The ball movement was a dead giveaway, but i guess there needs to be a balance. Too much fps and it looks more like a video game than a pinball machine and too low fps and it ruins the feel of the experience
