The portal proves 100% that Sony needs to make a new standalone handheld device. A vita 2 as it were. I think the market is now ready for it
@TigerSuit242 ай бұрын
The market is definitely ready for one, with all these companies coming out with handhelds from steam, asus, Lenovo and Logitech to name a few Sony could definitely capitalise on the handheld trend and dominate the market. If done correctly and by correctly I mean make a ps vita 2 that allows physical games it would sell incredibly well. The technology is there the exclusive games are there if anything they would be losing money not making one.

Sony won’t make a dedicated handheld seeing the success of the Portal they will make another streaming only device just watch.
@TigerSuit242 ай бұрын
@@ryans413 that wouldn’t make any sense at all why would they make a second device that does exactly the same thing as the first? It’s streaming the only upgrade they can make to this joke of a device is to add an oled screen and they might but nobody is going to buy it. It’s a lot more likely they are working on a psp/vita successor on the level of a steam deck or ASUS rog ally

@Sabundy2 ай бұрын
@@ryans413 yes....that is exactly what I would expect. And its the most logical choice. Because people want a portable device that is totally integrated with their console if not a hybrid system ala the Switch. If you are holding out for a portable device with a new physical media platform then you are only setting yourself up for disapointment. The only way to integrate a handheld device with a console is through streaming. Especially if you want said device to run the same games. With cloud streaming the console does the heavy lifting freeing the portable device to run the games. Just look at how under powered the Switch is and how it can barely run many games because of its limitations. Thats not what Playstation owners want. They clearly want a way to play the console games on the go, and the Portal proves that.

A couple things I’ve noticed is that 1 when I have my PS5 on sleep mode and power on the portal it doesn’t always power up the console when it’s trying to connect to it. It’s turned it on about 50% of the time which is super annoying. 2. it runs games installed on the PS5 Buttery smooth, but when I play say Diablo 4, which your constantly connected to the internet to play, I did experience quite a bit of lag. Granted I haven’t even owned this for 24 hrs yet so I’m still learning it.

The G Cloud at least can easily remote play PS5 without attaching a separate controller, if you use PSPlay. Now, the Portal is still potentially better for PS5-only gaming as it has better controls and the full PS haptics support (instead of the G Cloud's wimpy mobile vibration haptics emulation), plus a larger screen. OTOH, the G Cloud gets way more battery life, is more portable, and runs Android so you can use it for remote PC play, streaming movie / TV apps, emulators, or thousands of other things. Ultimately it's good people have more choices either way.

My problem with this is what is the support for it going to be like in the long term? Since with the psp and vita they could last forever since games were physical but for this where will it be in 10 years time

After the latest update this morning, I can finally play it lying down on my bed, 20 meters from the PS5, across two bedrooms and a family room, playing GTA5 without pulling my hair. Usually? HORRIBLE!

My only gripe is the thumbsticks. They're too small. Hopefully, the covers fix the issuenthough

I'm not streaming anything through wifi, lag is cancer. If there was some product to stream fro ps5 directly to the handheld i'd buy it.

What about stick drift? Do you just buy another portal?

Just a couple of screws and unplugging the ribbon cable to replace the stick, easier to get to than Joycons
