For #11 - The tide reverses at certain times in the day also. Instead of it pulling in ocean water, it sucks out the bay water. Goes from blue pool water look to ugly river water in a matter of 30 mins or so. Happened around 4pm ish in Aug 2021 when we went. Luckily we were leaving around that time

I just got back from Destin a couple days ago (August 2021), we didn’t research it very well, we thought it was a raised sandbar with tiki bars and fun vendors. So it was the slower time of year there was some venders they had t’shirts, then we find out they don’t sell alcohol, and to be honest we would have had a better time at the ocean in front of our townhouse Air B&B. We were a little disappointed there was hardly anyone there and we thought we could buy drinks. So timing is key to having fun there, and bring your alcohol. This was just my opinion, but someone else may totally enjoy it.

Me and 5 other friends are thinking about going to crab island in may. And trying to find the best way to get to crab island... no one knows how to drive a boat and probably half of us would be drunk by the end so If we got paddle board, paddling half our crew back wouldn’t be a good idea... so would a pontoon boat With a captain be one of the cheapest ways?

I’m a charter Captain in the Destin area, and I’ve lived here for over 20 years. I’ve taken hundreds of groups to the Crab Island sandbar, and spent thousands of hours there. There are a few things in this video that are incorrect. There are no floating playgrounds on that sandbar. They were banned about seven years ago. The tide cycles happen daily, and differ from day to day. We usually have one tide cycle per day, but about once every two weeks we have a semi-diurnal cycle…two high, and two low tides in a 24-hour day. The water at the sandbar appears “blue” when the incoming tide forces clear water up the 1.3 miles of Destin Pass, from the Gulf to the sandbar, when you have sunlight.. It happens for only part of the day, and it does not happen every day. It certainly does not happen for weeks or months at a time. Trying to determine when the water will be clear and appear “blue” at the sandbar requires an understanding of both tide timing and of tide strength.

So... to sum it up in 45 seconds or less..... 1. Crab Island is not an actual island. 2. Water is 1-4 ft deep where island USED to be. 3. Crab Island is only accessible buy boat, strong current don’t try to swim it. 4. Water is beautiful, go during High Tide 5. No sale of alcohol on island area, but they will sell you virgin drink at the tiki hut and comp you a free shot or two of vodka or other liquor if you buy the virgin drink. 6. Bring your cash and/or card because they have floating water park and food, etc. Snow cones, Ice Cream, etc. 7. Bring your waterproof Camera or phone to take photos. Waterproof Speakers 8. Most people don’t mind you to join their party. 9. During Weekends, they have live ands, live music. 10. There are plenty of places that’ll rent you a boat or paddle board. Water Taxi’s. 11. Best time to go is during high tide and from March to October.

@@hello_megs Thanks for the reply. I guess the water temperature is very relative. I live in Southern California. In April of this year I went to Florida for the first time. Our first stop was Naples. Prior to going to the beach, we asked the receptionist at the hotel how the water was. He said it is still cold. Slightly disappointed, we headed to the beach. When I stepped in the water, it felt like I was stepping inside a jacuzzi. I remember thinking- you call this cold? Really? Lol
@hello_megs3 жыл бұрын
@@CaliSteve169 yep. It all depends on the person honestly. I've found that most tourists don't think the water is chilly when we do. Lol I think it's probably bc most of them come from up north and are used to way colder temps. So the water feels nice to them.

Also in the video I'm putting below in the first few minutes the guys on our boat shared lots of infomation that I filmed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r56Vp2qhbcp_qNE

If you are taking a baby out there, I do not advise you keeping that baby in that sun w/sunblock for more than 40 minutes, and that might still be too long. That sand & water reflect that sun & sunburns creep up before you know it.

Rarely haha the amount of boat traffic and people tend to scare them off. Ntm all of the music being played. I've lived here 35 years and have only see 1 hammerhead on the island. Any other shark I've seen were the ones I caught while shoreline fishing.

Crab island use to be a family friendly destination, but lately I have seen more and more tRUMP and confederate flags. The drinking also gets out of hand some weekends.

Not on crab Island. I've lived here for 35 years and have only seen 1 shark on the island. The amount of boats and people tend to scare them off. We mostly have bull sharks and hammerheads and they aren't as aggressive as most think.
