Kamen Rider (or Heisei Kamen Rider?) seems to be a very hige franchise I wasn't even aware of. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this openings so much, neither expected to have actually watched the Saban's Masked Rider as a kid but just until now I remember! 😭😱

Fun fact, Super Sentai and Kamen Rider was created by the same person, Shotaro Ishinomori. These two shows were one of the first to pioneer the genre Tokusatsu, though historically Kamen Rider came first in 1971 while Super Sentai came in at 1975

Not so fun fact, after kamen rider black rx in 89 the series was cancelled and ishinomori was in the process of reviving it with kuuga in 2000 but died before major work could begin in 98. More sad facts, eiji tsuburaya, the creator of ultraman and known as the father of tokusatsu, died after the franchise’s second installment before ultrman was even a series. Uplifting fact, eiji’s sons hajime, noboro and akira ran tsuburaya productions after their fathers death and helped raised ultraman to were it is today. As a toku fans, let me explain the important things about kamen rider. So, Kamen Rider was originally a cyborg created by an evil organization called the Shockers. But because his humanity survives, Kamen Rider decides to fight the organization. It was an original story from the Showa era. For what you're watching right now, this is the era of Heisei whose series started in 2000. And from here, Kamen Rider's story is no longer focused on cyborgs fighting evil organizations, but more diverse. So, every year Kamen Rider will change series, which means that the main character, storyline, and also the name of the series change. And in general, in the Kamen Rider series, there is a main rider or main character, then a secondary rider, and sometimes it can be more than that. One kamen rider can have various forms thanks to their various items.

Yeah Kamen Rider is a lot of fun because you effectively get a new show every year with their own themes and vibes. IMHO the openings aren't even the best tracks in the series, A lot of the series have songs that play during pivotal moments and most of those are crazy bangers. I practically grew up listening to Supernova for example.

@@Jhulian_R add some information, why is the name of series is kamen rider? as far as i know the original concept is mysterious/lone hero wearing mask and riding motorcycle, then the name is Kamen (japanese for mask) rider. this concept become less prominent starting in mid 2000, then kamen rider become more of a title of the hero. another fact already provided by another commenters. its fun to watch your reaction :)

I don't think people say this enough but i love that you mainly react about the *Music* Like, i watched Kamen Rider since I'm 10 or something and i already heard the openings for thousands of time but the way you analyze it made me hear sounds that i never even realize was there, especially on the instrumentals, and It kinda makes me appreciate the musics on deeper level (if that makes sense). Now I'm having this wholesome epiphany, and i thank you for that.

Agito was actually quite stern in its presentation as it’s about people trying to find themselves. Agito himself is trying to regain his memories after a big accident, G3 doesn’t know why he joined the police force in the first place, and Gills doesn’t know what he did to transform into a monster. The opening reflects this by its slower pacing and mellow tone.

Fourze, the astronaut one, was the series that came out right after the devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2011. The studio and creatives wanted to make a fun light hearted show that could make everyone smile and happy. So they settled on a high school setting and space theme with a hero that while looking like a stereotypical stupid punk he was the friendliest and very emotionally intelligent.

I was really not expecting that, but I'm glad it happened. Gonna dump a lot of information, I hope it helps and gonna try to be in order of questions you did in the video. Alright, what you watched is only the Heisei era riders (21 out of the 34), Kamen rider series are separated by the japanese emperor at time, Heisei went from 1989 to 2019, and the first one you watched was Kuuga that aired in 2000 and the last one is Zi-O from 2018. There are 9 riders before that(the Showa era) and so far 5 afterwards(the Reiwa era). Most seasons only have 1 opening each and since 2000 is one season of Kamen rider per year with around 45 episodes each. Fourze(the space one) was in 2011, since W(3 riders before, the green and purple one) is what we call "heisei phase 2" it was a part of the heisei era where they changed a lot of stuff, you can feel in the music how the style changed in phase 2. The one you watched probably was Bettleborg if was insect themed and was not a power ranger, this is a differente category of super sentai. Tokusatsu is the classification for any japanese production with strong use of special effects. Super sentai specifically refers franchise of teams like power rangers(in japan called sentais), Kamen rider refers to the franchise you watched, and bettleborg is a "Metal Hero" that is another specific style of tokusatsu. Godzilla and Ultraman are also classified as Tokusatsu. Your "guilty pleasure" (Kamen rider build) is actually a big fan favorite song and series in the english speaking side. Power rangers are american adaptations of Super Sentais but america tried to adapt other series too. They used to re-use the in-suit scenes and record themselves the human form scenes, with time america started to do everything by themselves using the suits to re-record everything. With exception of some specific riders, they are "stand alones", every season every character changes, with some come backs in specific seasons. Besides Kuuga, in this era every season has at least 3 riders on it, and some of you saw are "side forms" of the same rider that act like power ups, and are pretty much new toys for kids. In the era you watched, most of the riders have "themes", so for example OOOs theme is medals, Fourze is themed on space, Zi-O theme is Time, Wizard theme is magic,etc,etc. It became more and more "showing " in the end like you realized in Ex-aid(the theme is games).

saw there ppl gave you breakdown of heisei riders, actually there are 2 categories in heisei, from Kuuga to Decade (first 10) is old heisei, they still have a lot Showa style, particularly in first few from W to Zi-O (second 10) is new heisei, because from this point, they use a lot additional items to change form, it help Bandai change their toy strategy particularly you can find some numbering element from W W (2 ppl transform into 1 rider) OOO (3 medals to transform) Fourze (4 swith to transform, and fourze mean 40, it is 40th anniversary from first showa kamen rider) Wizard (touch hand, 5 figures) Gaim (use lock to transform, lock sounds like 6 "roku" in jp and a lock looks like lock) Drive (the Japanese name of this one end with "Fu" sound it looks like 7, this is most arguable Ghost (later upgrade item related to infinity, it looks like lateral 8) Ex-aid (the theme is doctor and game, first aid in jp sounds like 99 in jp, and highest game level in this series is 99 (a few exception) Build ( you can find the element of 1 and 0 from his belt) Zi-O (his face is a watch point at 10:10, being 20th heisei rider)

Japan tends to wear their hair longer although it’s more shorter as they get older as they reflect. Usually by age 35 their hair goes to a business haircut. It’s because they believe youth is a time to play. Although schools have strict policies on how to wear hair. Some older people wear their hair longer but often it’s cut back. It’s something they do. Most kamen rider actors are in their 20s allowing them to wear their hair longer. Although they occasionally might wear a wig if needed.

Heisei Jan 8, 1989 - Apr 30, 2019. Heisei Kamen Rider starts in 2000. Every opening is for a different season with different characters. Sometimes same universe. Separate but connected. 2011 one, the Fourze, the space one, got remade to be a happy theme, in response to the natural disaster that devastated Japan. The director saw an image of a statue of Kamen Rider Ichigo standing tall amidst the destruction and decided to change the theme from a gloomy one to a cheerful highschool focused one.

All riders are immortal by memory and have “true forms” that can exist in fiction and reality and can basically travel to any dimension/universe or world including ours and these true forms ignore all rules of plot and story and all of them have a form of super stats Kuuga-super stats and senses, fire control and a planet destroying kick Agito-flame and thunder powers, sunlight and infinite evolution and adaption Ryuki-fire control and a literal dragon, the ability to peer into and enter the mirror world where only rides monsters and the creators can survive its effects, a non rider quite literally disappears in the mirror world if theyre not a rider, final form named survive is meant to survive everything thrown at him and enhances his stats Odin(antagonist rider of ryuki)-teleportation and survive as a default form and his trump card(literally), the time vent advent card resets timelines Faiz-because of the latest faiz movie, faiz 20th paradise regained 2024, he can now bypass and ignore predictive ai, his super form(accel form) allows him to move at sound-lightspeed by accelerating his own time flow, final form(blaster form) has a sword gun that has a massive laser and a sword sharp enough to fairly easily slice a train in half and he has a nuke kick Blade-gimmick of cards like ryuki, except its the powers of the stronger monsters he fights, his super form jack lets him fly and his final form king form, has the powers of all 13 monsters at once which all have different kinds of powers and he gains super stats and if he clashes with the third rider of his series (chalice) they will destroy the world (or theirs at the very least) Hibiki-musical and elemental abilities and his final form allows him to one shot ginormous demons Kabuto-base form allows him to accelerate his time flow to lightspeed like faiz accel and he has some electricity powers, his final form hyper kabuto makes him even faster and even lets him time travel, his ability hyper clock up makes other zect riders look like theyre in slow-mo from his perspective while the monsters of his series are just completely frozen in place as if time is stopped, there has been no stated limit to how far back in time he can go so that means he could just erase your entire bloodline from existence Den-O-weaponized schizophrenia and split personality. (hes one of the weaker riders but ability wise hes pretty strong, hes a singularity point which makes him immune to all time shenanigans and can restore parts of the world by memory) Kiva-his final form is badass Decade-has the power of every heisei phase 1 main rider and the showa riders, complete form allows him to access and summon all the phase 1 riders in their final forms and he has the ability to merge universe but can also destroy all of them by merging Neo Decade-he now has every main rider power including the reiwa riders in exchange for a goofy ass design W-magical and weapon-like abilities, access to the gaia library which grants them infinite knowledge OOO-oh boy, theres a LOT OOO Ratoratah-superspeed light and scorching heat OOO Sagozo-gravity and durability OOO Tajador-flight flame control and bird powers like feather missiles and summoning a giant phoenix, shield that shoots fire discs OOO Tajador Eternity (upgraded version in the latest OOO Just for a little clearing things up, Japan has eras divided by the families in power, which for most franchises means nothing, but for Kamen Rider since it's big franchise shake up happened right alongside the change in era, it became a trend by fans and officially to separate riders in those eras, the franchise does date all the way back to the 70's, which is called the showa era, while all of these openings are from the end of the 90's through the 2000's all up to 2018-19, as the title says, the Heisei Era So yeah, one could say that by this point this was far from their first rodeo for openings 😅

I don't know exactly Since when japanese started use english but even japanese anime from the 60-s using it. Heisei riders started from 2000 with Kuuga but the first Kamen rider is from 1971.(even the name and the special moves are english:rider kick, rider punch.... )

I believe the show you're thinking of was 'Big Bad Beetleborgs" which was an adapatation of Juukou B-Fighter and B-Fighter Kabuto from the Metal Hero franchise. EDIT: Any time you see a Kamen Rider series using older costumes, it usually indicates an anniversary season. Decade was the 10th Heisei Rider, Zi-O was the last Heisei Rider before the era turned over. The newest riders are in the 'Reiwa' era.

The reason why they most use motorcycles was because the first Rider used one and they had sorta kept the trend through generations except for Kamen Rider Drive who is the only one with a specially made Race Car. Think about it. It's an easier mode of transportation then having to find a place to have your own car parked somewhere. And in some of the series. the bike has a will of its own or they are able to called it from anywhere or have it shrunk down for easier transport and when they need it? They just set it up. And being a Rider means having your own Motorbike. or your own vehicle.

In terms of Kamen Rider's success Kuuga (the first ope in the video) was a revival of the series after it had been in hibernation for much of the 90's (the franchise's original run was in the 70's and 80's). Kuuga was a big success but the series after it were very mixed in that regards some did well, some did so poorly that they threatened to send the franchise back into hibernation. Partially because they were stuck trying to figure out what the franchise would be in modern times. It wasn't until Kamen Rider W (the one with the detective theme) that they properly settled on a tone and formula and started to see consistent success.

I would recommend that you see the opening in its final version, not just the initial one. because many change, like Deb-oh, which starts to be sung by the imajins (protagonists) or they have other openings, like Hibiki, which changes completely. Generally the final openings are better or evolutions of the original opening

There are 3 eras of Kamen riders the Showa the Heisei (the ones you watched) and the Reiwa eras. I reccomend watching the Reiwa Riders and the Super Sentai themes next. Their themes will fit your tastes.

Extremely late to the party, but here nevertheless. The intro playing at the 11th minute mark is named Kagayaki, is something that is probably better experienced in its full version. The show is about Oni (Ogres/Demons) that use music in order to perform ritual cleansing of other evil monsters; and the older generation training and passing it on to a new generation. They are divided into 3 tribes, of fire percursions, wind trumpets and electric strings. The full intro reflects all the tribes because it loops, and each part is dedicated to one instrument. Part 1 has Taikos (the japanese drum), Part 2 adds vocal chanting, Part 3 adds electric guitars, Part 4 adds violins, Part 5 revisits vocals and adds trumpets. Once you know the basic premise and arc of each character, it really is something beautiful how they're all the same bite sized loop of music, but it is perfectly fitted and arranged for their personalities. Similarly, Climax Jump, the one at 14:30 has another better version, where the voice actors of the show sing the theme as their characters. The energy of the song is a lot more present and less melancholic. Super niche recommendation inside this already niche recommendation, but they actually yearly release the original soundtrack of these shows. Like the suspense music when the villain is plotting, the heroic theme when the hero is about to transform, the hook for the next episode and so on. Those are as much of a good thing to listen to as the song tracks themselves, IMHO.

Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are siblings franchise. They have the same creator and belong to the same company. Including they have crossover movies. It is characterized by having more complex stories with character development involving more mature things such as death, grief, guilt, overcoming one's own weakness and sometimes morals. There is a Rider who has something similar to a depressive state. Another person, at first, has no dreams or motivation in life. There are others who are poor and work like Ryuki (who has bills to pay, the story of this debt is hilarious). There is another Rider who is a young adult who is still discovering himself, trying to understand what it means to be an adult and what he wants in life, but he needs to help financially at home and spends half the series looking for a job. There are times when Riders are confronted with their morals and need to take actions that go against their principles or ideas, even if it hurts them. For example, there is a Rider who needs to kill his own father after meeting him, because his father is the villain. I've seen a series where a Rider spends the entire series helping a friend and in the end he dies in his arms. And then this friend is revived under the control of evil forces and needs to be killed by the Rider. I feel like crying every time I remember it. Despite this, the series does not have a heavy atmosphere. It has humor, funny jokes, things are colorful and there are warm moments with friends and messages about hope, willpower and believing in the path you chose to follow in your life. I'm still discovering this franchise, I've seen less than 10 series so far. But these characteristics have been common among them.
