In my humble opinion, people should not spend so much energy in working out their welfare entitlement, use the same energy to make money instead. One should not expect to live comfortably on government welfare. As to clawback, I get $0 from my OAS, but this does not meant I get nothing, the clawback amount is treated as a tax credit, print out the annual statement from your service Canada account and give it to your accountant. You must declare your foreign pension , there is a line on the tax form to fill in but you are not tax on it. Enjoy your retirement, don’t sweat over a few hundred dollars of social welfare payments. If you do get these payments, spend all of it to help the economy. Remember, the welfare payments, free healthcare, free education etc are pay for by tax money, if nobody want to tax , there will be no welfare.

Thank you for sharing your perspective! It's true that focusing on growing wealth is important, and managing government benefits like OAS should be part of a broader financial plan. Everyone's situation is different, and it's great that you're making the most of your resources. Enjoy your retirement, and thanks again for your thoughtful comment!

Well said! My husband and I have paid into the system for close to 5 decades, during our working years. What irks me are those who rack their brains to hide their cash income from the CRA in order to pay little or no tax, yet make every effort to maximize government subsidies, ignoring or overlooking what other honest, hard-working taxpayers have contributed, to provide for national security, clean water, "free" healthcare, "free" education, welfare subsidies for the elderly to live with dignity. Money does not grow on trees. Stop the nickle-and-dime thinking. For every extra "free" dollar one receives from the CRA, this dollar was collected by the CRA, from another honest, hard-working Canadian taxpayer. Remember that your children and grandchildren will be heavily burdened by the staggering federal debt for decades to come.

For CPP, if we will live in China at retirement, can we still get it?
@NovellaWealth3 ай бұрын
@@kwokchung2468 Yes, if you live in China during retirement, you can still receive CPP payments. Canada has agreements with several countries, including China, to allow the payment of CPP even if you’re living abroad. However, there are some conditions based on how long you’ve contributed to CPP and where you’re residing. CRA will automatically deduct a withholding tax from your CPP.

Thanks for the info. Question. Can we apply for GIS at age 65 but postpone CPP&OAS ?
@NovellaWealth4 ай бұрын
To apply for GIS, you must be receiving OAS. So if you're postponing your OAS, you won’t be eligible for GIS until you start receiving OAS. For personalized advice on optimizing your retirement strategy, feel free to reach out to us at Novella Wealth! bit.ly/430I3q1
