Just looks like bits and pieces from hung gar forms with other bits that are not good hung gar added with no real inclination of effective application... who invented this form ?

why you want to write a complaining letter ? In the beginning everything was invented... this set "suppose" to come from lam Sai Wings Granduncle ... bits that are not hung gar..like? The question is who has the saying what is hung gar and what not ? Is there someone like an authority ? The hung gar police ? lol .... If you dont see the application Id say more practice... anyway is this set adding anything to hung kuen ? Id say no... but its a short nice set, maybe good for people with only little time to seriously practice hung kuen... this set is being taught in the Lam Family as well as in the Chiu Family.... Im surprised you have not heard of this set...any serious hung gar practicioner should at leats know about its existence... like its part of the research...

Very good. For you reading the comments section. Remember that kung-fu means a long time and great effort practicing something difficult to obtain. It means hard work. Kung-fu = hard work. Why dont you do this ? I teach it takes ten years to get a black belt. But mastery requires a lifetime. Dispel the darkness. Return the Light. Reveal the art. Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association.

You don't understand, this is taught as an introductory form. You don't understand what is actually happening in this form. First of all understand a form is like a book. They are a bunch of individual techniques. Say you train muay thai or judo or both for example you may have a favorite technique or a good combination that you like to use when sparring or fighting, the form is a way of passing down techniques you have found effective and a way of passing down combinations. It's basicly an encyclopedia of techniques. Furthermore just because you see someone doing something that seems unusual, say for example a double punch in a horse stance, that doesn't necessarily mean that is the way it is meant to be applied, the low stances are a way of training balance and a form of strength conditioning, in action a higher staggered stance would be used, you see this being used be Conor McGregor, Stephen wonder boy Thompson, Lyoto Machida etc. And in terms of the example of the double punch or a double block, grab, chop...it is a way of showing it can be done with both sides and a way of training ambidexerity. Also something a good teacher will teach his students is that there are many different applications for every movement, for example you may only see a simple strike and while that is an obvious application that movement can also serve as a parry or block, it may also have a throw as an application or a chin na (joint-lock/submittion). All these thing are there in this form, you just don't see it because you haven't been taught them, there is much more than what is seen on the surface. And let me say it once more, while I am not part of this school, I trained this style (Hung Gar Kuen) for years under two different Sifu's of 2 different lineages and I learned this form. Although it was much shorter and a bit different, this form is a supplementary form, not a main form of the System, it is ment to teach some of the basics (shifting to generate power, sleuthing parties and blocks, some basic strikes and serves as a way to introduce stances and begin developing leg strength and a strone stance) and is taught to beginners before you start to learn the pillar forms (techniques/ combinations etc.) that make up the style. The fact you think you can judge Hung Gar Kung fu off Arrow hands set is laughable, its just not laughable to you because you are completely ignorant. I wouldn't walk into any Martial arts school and after seeing then teach beginners some of the basics judge the school or styles effectiveness, that is the equivalent of what you have done here. I have trained many styles of martial arts and Hung Gar and even this set right here has many effective applications, its all about how it is taught. Even the best and most realistic styles won't work if the teacher isn't embracing a realistic approach. We train certain techniques and combinations or forms to build proper form and to develop muscle memory and learn the best way to generate power, we do not see a punch and think ok I'm going to apply this application. No, we do not do that, it is just like boxing, it is spontaneous, everything we did before that was just conditioning, developing muscle memory, learning to strike in combinations and developing knowledge of body mechanics/ weak points.. good Kung fu is simple in application, you can see the basics of northern and southern style Kung fu and shuai jiao (traditional Chinese wrestling/grappling, which is also impeded in Hung Ga and most styles of Kung fu, its just not obvious unless it's shown to you) in the sport Sanda (also called Sanshou) and Sanda Fighters are some of the best in the world the sport uses sweeps, throws knees elbows, kicking and punching, they have done great in competition against muay thai fighters and many of the Sanda fighters whi have transitioned to MMA have gone on to be some of the best in the world, look at Cung Le who beat frank Shamrock when he was regarded as the best in the world in his weight class, cung le beat him badly and became the reigning champ in strike force, he was a Sanda world champ many times over. Look at Pat Berry, I remember reading his article in Kung fu Tai Chi Magazine many years ago, you can see his influence in Rose Namajunas's style with her striking. Look at Weili Zhang who continues to practice traditional kung fu and train Sanda techniques, even Anderson silver you can see him training and incorporating Wing Chun into his striking and effectively using Bong Sau (Wing arm Parry/block). Tony Furgeson trains on Wing Vhun Dummies and incorporates kung fu into his style constantly and effectively uses it. Bottom line is the problem is many teachers don't encourage and apply realistic training and adapt and apply the style to realistic fighting. When this is training Hung Gar and other styles of Kung fu can and does create effective fighters.
