R.I.P. Rick!!!!!

I've seen bands like Sabbath, Iron Maiden, AC/DC and many other "massive" bands but The Quo blow them all out of the water. I haven't enjoyed myself at a gig as much as I have at theirs. It's bittersweet listening to them now knowing I'll never see Rick on stage again.

John I was there at the recording of the live show which made it onto the album. Met Rick and Francis some years later and mentioned ‘the balcony’. Rick laughed and said they could see it bouncing up and down!! He told me about another freaky event at one of their shows. They were playing Cardiff (I think) and the management got a bomb scare call so the staff went round like cinema ushers in the old days with torches and tried to check around the fans and seats to see if there was a suspect device in the building!! The band played on, unbelievable but typical Quo. RIP Rick One of the best. Oh and the FF were the best but Rossi is to his credit keeping it going to the pleasure of many, many fans. A great band.

What an exciting medley! An instant fave! Status Quo is new to me. Just discovered them in December, and I am enjoying song after song...including this one. How is it I never heard of them until now? If not for a friend here in the US who is originally from Sussex, odds are I would not have learned of them. Conversely, I have been a Slade fan since 1974 when I bought "Slayed?" on a lark. I have almost everything they ever made, and I like a lot of British bands. That said, I hope someone can help me find an answer to a question. Prefacing, I first heard the crowd chant, "Whoa-oa-oa-oa! Whoa-oa-oa-oa!" on Slade Alive 2. It was an intro to the song "We'll Bring the House Down." I thought that crowd chant was unique to Slade. Now, 29 years later since I bought that LP, and while listening to numerous live Quo tracks, I hear the audiences doing the same chant. Question: What is the origin of the chant, or with who is it most associated? Did it start with Slade? Is that actually more of a crowd thing for the Quo? Is that a common chant for several bands from England/UK? Whatever the answer, it seems to be unique to the UK. I sincerely hope someone can assist me with finding the answer. No matter what the answer, as Noddy Holder would bellow at the top of his lungs, "Keep on rockin'!" Thank you so much for this posting.

Paul DuBay Glad you found Quo, mate! I always thought it was a massive shame that they never made it in America. Both because I think a lot of Americans would've really enjoyed their sound and also because it has stopped the band from being fairly rated as one of the best of all time. Unfortunately, to "earn" that accolade you have to break the American market. Slade and Quo broke at pretty much the same time over here and there was a large crossover between the fans of both bands. I've been to see Quo live about a dozen times but I'm only in my 20s. You'd have to ask a mega-fan of both bands who was there at the time to get an accurate answer regarding the origin of that chant. One thing though: the version chanted at Quo gigs is "Quo-oh-oh-oh-oh". And that's been the case since the '70s. Interesting question by the way. What's your favourite Quo song so far?
@FriarTuck7775 жыл бұрын
Hello@@e-knockpower7808! What a great Quo fan greeting mate! Ta! Thank you! Yes, you are right, and with a good choice of words. It is a massive shame that SQ never made it in the US. In the short time I have become blessedly enchanted with them and their music, it is clear that they are, by far, one of the best bands I have ever heard in my life. While I once heard of SQ, I never heard their music. US radio stations did not air them. If SQ had been better marketed, US rockers would have been all over them. This band strikes a chord win the musical hearts of everyone who can hear it. While the same is/was true for Slade, I knew how to find their music and did a fair job of keeping current. Thus, I smiled when I read that there was a cross-over fandom with Slade and SQ So, to be fair, two years ago, a friend from Sussex shared, "Rockin' All Over the World" 2009 Glastonbury version. I got around to checking into SQ's catalog in December, am still immersed, and loving it all. My faves? Such a kind question! Again, I thank you. This jam is mighty fine! The NEC 14/5/1982 version of Forty Five Hundred Times is my fave 'jam'! As for other fave tunes. Oh my! The list has grown so much in a short time. That said, I like: Whatever You Want, What You're Proposing, Down Down, Fine Fine Fine (a gem of a deeper cut), Caroline, Softer Ride, Hold You Back. As you can see, it is hard to pick a fave out of so many great 'catchy' tunes. I love 'em all! Now that I have answered your question, please enlighten me. What are your fave SQ tunes? I hope you'll reply. Thank you for appreciating my question about the "Quo-oh-oh-oh-oh!" It is a fascinating musical and sociological question. Am sure you are correct with what you shared. Thank you. In later live recordings, I have heard what I 'thought' was the audience chanting "Quo-oh-oh-oh-oh!" Alas, I could not be 100% certain. Thank you for that affirmation. Also, youth is not a factor in appreciation of a band. I know kids who put so-called adults to shame, and they do it in the best way - being purely sincere. No shame in that. So you are a true mega-Quo fan, just a wee bit younger than most. I hope they were/are as fun as they appear on DVD. I did not intend to go on so long. Am not presuming upon you kindness. Rather, like Paul McCartney fans (which I am), Quo fans are the BEST! I see it in all the feedback postings on youtube. People rightfully love SQ. They do not like them. They love 'em! I do, too. Am glad I finally made it, and am all the more grateful to get a kind note like yours. No plan to take up more of your time. With all the joy your note evoked, I simply replied in kind. Thank you, again, for writing and, as Noddy Holder would bellow, "Keep on rockin'!" After all, as SQ would say, "It sounds so nice."

Too bad most my fellow Americans think Status Quo is a mere one-hit wonder. This is a fantastic medley, even though it's not original Quo- they are covering the Doors' Roadhouse Blues (and Rick Parfitt sings it multiple times more than Jim Morrison ever did, plus Andy Bown doing a mean harp) and Dion and the Belmonts' The Wanderer, among others. It's amazing how they combine all these songs into one!.
