Fun fact: in an ancient Chinese mythology novel ‘封神演义’, Nezha is a general serving Ji Fa who’s the 2nd king of Zhou Dynasty (the 3rd Dynasty in Chinese history), while Jiang Ziya is the King’s Godfather and Prime Minister. Nezha learnt a lot from the chief commander Jiang Ziya during the war for establishing Zhou Dynasty. 😂

NEZHA is the apprentice of "jiangziya". Two other apprentices of “jiangziya”. One is called "二郎神" (he has three eyes and is the protagonist of the next film series). That trope is literally, quintessentially, the oldest trope in the world. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the world’s oldest story, and is all about a demigod born to lead humanity under the watchful gaze of the gods choosing to side with humanity so they can grow out from the shadow of the gods. And periodically says fuck you to the gods directly when he can. Seriously, one goddess proposes to him and the next few minutes of the tale are dedicated to him poetically reciting to her everything that’s wrong with her and all her former lovers who have suffered because of her. It’s amazing.

well pixar was always super focused on human emotion and family, ie: inside out, soul, toy story, incredibles. I actually like the mythological stuff, what I don’t like is how a lot of the designs and stuff seem to take more from modern fantasy and trends, when I see them I don’t really think “ancient” or “mythology”. Doesn’t mean the designs are bad, I like some of them but they feel weird for some reason, I feel like some of them would work better in 2D. I also feel like they’re going all in at once, and the epic feel of the movie doesn’t really dawn on me because I have nothing to compare it too. Disney didn’t start out doing big animated epics, they started out with fairytales and folktales. This is all just my opinion. :)

whit this movie, White Snake, Nezha, etc. i think that China finaly became to know that they dont have to copy excactly everything that Disney do and that they have to put on their movies that essence and style that makes Chineese folklore so beautiful and unique. They are building an interconnected animation universe, like what Marvel and DC have been doing, I'm telling you. There was a end credit scene setting up this movie in Ne Zha (2019). And there's a funny ad featuring Wu Kong from Monkey King: Hero is Back (2015) and Ne Zha as well. I'm excited!
