I just finished seeing the video, and my conclusion is he kills itself, he broke the light bulb with his tail cause tight it too much, and that causes an interference with the electric circuit and when the other one releases his light all the electricity goes to him, and instead of releasing his light too, he still holds on, so that's the reason, his arrogance kills himself. This animation is incredible, and the screen borders is super creative. I noticed the screen felt fuller at 1:26, but I didn't realize it was because of the black bars until 2:21- I had to go back and rewatch the whole thing to notice just how many times the image just subtly went out of the screen's bounds. It's so unique, and the style is gorgeous

It's not that she chose him because of "process of elimination". But that when presented with a dangerous situation, the more timid creature ran to protect her, showing her with actions that she means more to him than just finding a mate and gettin it on. Would the other one have done the same? Given how macho and aggressively confident he looked, he would have likely stepped away and if she survived to continue laying it on thick. She chose love. I don't really know if nobody got this, but there are way too many comments stating the obvious.
