The bezel is already big enough... though not that it matters on a product like this. But I do think if they could've done a round display (even OLED maybe) it would look a lot nicer, though that would almost certainly seriously raise the cost

@TheMrMobile6 жыл бұрын
Asked the company about this. It seems pretty clear they wanted to go with a custom round OLED panel for his face, but the price difference was astronomical and they had to settle for LCD.
@SaveThePurpleRhino6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm having my amoled on my tab s2 9.7 inch, boy oh boy it's expensive. Having it as a replacement for Jibo's LCD would be quite heavy on the wallet
@shanez12156 жыл бұрын
Save the Rhino Yep, originally I was gonna buy a destroyed Note 5 to tinker with, repair, and maybe resell. Unfortunately, the AMOLED panel was so expensive that fixing it would cost more than getting one from Craigslist unless I could get the destroyed phone for less than 30 dollars
@apfelschorle19886 жыл бұрын
So why no regular OLED screen? It doesn't have to be the whole head
@TheMrMobile6 жыл бұрын
Any OLED panel would have been significantly more expensive.

I still like Jibo simply because I love cheering for the underdog...especially if it's sooooo cute ❤ The price will come down a bit at a time and his (her...?) skills will improve over that same period of time as you've shown Michael, so I'm confident it will succeed. Will I buy one? It has that certain something most all tech products are lacking--personality. So yes, yes I would buy one, when it grows up just a bit more 👍 Great review, you always seem to take on the different stuff no one else seems to find interesting, it's the reason I love this channel so very much!
@cordellshackelford40376 жыл бұрын
Michael Livote it's cool but kind of useless right now. If they can make an assistant that's even 80% as good as today's Google assistant and Alexa and then weave in the Jibo personality then it would be worth it. But until then I will be watching this company.
@apfelschorle19886 жыл бұрын
Maybe they should partner with Microsoft. I'm not talking about Cortana itself but they could help with Azure and the processing. And making a $600 robot assistant working with outlook would make sense too.

I remember the initial promo video for jibo, it was so exciting for something like this to bring about the future. Years later, it seems that in practical circumstances jibo falls short. I'd like to see a re-review if substantial improvements are made Michael.

This is definitely what I would love to see in a digital assistant. Jibo just needs quite a lot of work to make it more natural (the voice) and more functionality, once those hurdles are overcome, it’ll be an amazing product

I agree! Company's folks told me in our conversation that the notion of a wheeled or otherwise mobile robot (with cameras) following people around the house rang too many "creepy" bells for this product, though.
@seanchoi66326 жыл бұрын
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] But if jibo only follows you if commanded (like how you tell it to turn away), it could mitigate those issues

They should have open app development for this. Create an opensource community of homebrew solutions. Imagine if the wifi or bluetooth could connect to a raspberry Pi monitoring the temperature of a cooler, set of computers, or greenhouse (whatever you might want to be able to check in on). Jibo could be an interface for homebrew maker and hacker stuff, along with everything it is doing now. Hopefully that could give the product a boost of a community, without sacrificing user data privacy or ad-free use.

Great review as usual mr Mobile. I like their angle, a less intrusive and more lovable robot. Actually i think the simplicity is also part of how they are rolling it out for industrial use. Imagine it being a receptionist or a friendly surveillance droid for manual tasks in a manufacturing environment for example. so i think it has the potential to be bigger than the competition one day

I was forgiving until I got to the price part of the video, $699!?!?! OUCH! - I also really like what you said, about customer expectation over riding manufacture's intent. That's a really powerful point. I also like your idea about giving up on the vocal interaction, and going for something more simple like endearing noises. To further that point, make better use of it's screen. This is something that you look at, more than just talk to. It's responses could be more visual than spoken. It's hard, because it's one of those products that I want so badly to like, but at nearly $700, no. My on-sale $25 Google home-mini wipes the floor with it, and has much better vocal interactions which are only getting better.
