Matt is spot on about the magic craw swirl. If you guys want to use that and want another trailer that pairs up perfectly with that color the rage menace comes in a blue swirl color, I think it’s called green pumpkin blue swirl. Exact same idea just another great option for a trailer, the rage menace is my favorite trailer of all time, also my top bait for smaller t rigs, check it out

you guys are the most professional of all the you tubers, although you should start demonstrating howto use the lures. I think you've done plenty of videos on lures to use in different times of the year going way back to 2014, but there are not many videos on demonstrating howto use the lure, the conditions when it should be thrown (water temp, clarity, wind, overcast/or clear, etc..), and where to throw the lure.

@@raytubach8988 Yep, this would bring together all the principles we are looking for to gain an edge on the water. It's hard enough to determine what to throw when, especially in these cold conditions when they don't bite most offerings. I'm a weekend angler who fights to get out and mainly float tube small lakes/ponds/rivers, so providing me with the who/what/when/where answers at least gives me a general idea how I should fish. From here I take what I can which applies to my local bodies of water and try to apply the principles to catch more fish.

Man i’ve been having so much trouble with jigs and i feel like i’ll never get a bite. Any tips on how you tend to fish them? Popping them off the bottom? Constant retrieve?

@@tylergable2445 I don't do so much with the constant retrieve. I like flipping docks and under tree limbs and such along shorelines. It works especially well for me early mornings or later in the evening. That's been my experience.

@@tylergable2445 I had trouble getting my first jig bite too. You may fish them like a texas rigged worm. Just try to be in contact with the bait at all times. You can drag it on the bottom with some pauses and twitches from time to time. You can flip or pitch them. When you feel a bite just set the hook hard. If you're dragging the jig try to feel every little rock on the bottom. You have to focus on what's happening down there so it's easier to spot a bite. A sensitive rod will help. You can try two approaches trying to get that first bite: one is to go to your favorite spots and fish your confidence worm or other bottom crawling bait. When you start to catch fish start throwing a jig. The other approach is to go fishing and take only jigs with you! Just think of a jig as a worm that usually gets less bites but bigger bites (almost like a big worm). Because it gets less bites it can take more time until you develop confidence in them, but fish them enough and you'll get bit! If you don't know what jig to get try the pitching jig because, as Matt says, it can do everything. Good luck!

Another great vid!! Hula grub was my "senko" before the senko hit the market. I actually fished it back in the 80's before it was fished by everyone in Michigan. It won me several local tournaments when everyone else was power fishing. IMO it still out fishes the Senko on my lakes of choice here in Michigan, because I see very few anglers throwing it. Color 297 will ALWAYS be the go-to color!!!

Down here in the South, we call them "spider jigs" (at least I did)...in the 80's and 90's I didn't know anyone that used them. As odd as it sounds, I always fished them on a Carolina Rig...(watermelonseed and pumpkinseed) and caught a lot of fish on them.

We called them Spider grubs also, and were not Yamamoto brand either. A small company made them and were later bought out by GY. I believe they were called Triple S series for super salty spider. They outfished every other finesse bait out there by a huge margin here in Michigan.

Simple, if you are getting a lot of bites but wont hook up, trim the skirt and shorten your trailer, regardless of what kind of jig you're using. If you want more action out of your trailer, trim the skirt to the bottom bend of the hook so the skirt material wont interfere with the flapping action of the trailer

The Curado 7'6 MH makes a pretty good jig rod without spending a big chunk of change. Paired with a Curado reel and 16 lb fluoro covers small finesse jigs in clear water up to prespawn chatter bait fishing in new grass

I love jig fishing. I use a 7”3 heavy with a 7:1:1 reel. I’ve been told my reel is not fast enough. I’ve never thought it was slow, but of course now I am second guessing myself!

hoss011 I believe Matt fishes everything on braid to mono (or FC 100 which is similar to mono in the way that it stretches) with exception of (I think it was) particular time on crankbait or jerkbait which he uses fluoro. I think he does flip and frog with straight braid. (Mentioned in other videos)

I tried to get a 7'2" MH Expride for finess jig fishing / all purpose, but TW was sold out so I went with a 6'10" medium. You think that rod will work out ok and while I've got you.... can you do a hair jig video? I thought it'd be included here

That rod is amazing for finesse jigs and jerk baits. I wouldn't necessarily throw a swimjig or a flipping jig on it but it is a very good rod. I would say that the Megabass Orochi Braillist is a very good all around jig rod, can do a little bit of everything

@@lexm0 thanks Lex. I just spent most of yesterday playing around with it. It casts incredibly accurate and i'm pretty happy with using it with my finesse jigs. Actually worked really well dragging an underspin on the bottom super slowly as well. I could feel a pretty clear difference between the give of hitting grass, the thud of hitting wood and the click of hitting rocks.

He said 40lb Power Pro for the 10-12 leader. Using Maxima mono or Sunline leader. For the 15-20lb leader, again maxima or sunline he is using 65lb Power Pro Maxcuatro.

Is a Fury 734 too much rod for a finesse football during the winter? Its my only “jig” rod and I usually have 50# braid to a 15# leader. Or can I use a Fury 703 spinning with 20# braid to a 10# leader for finesse footballs in the winter? Thanks for the help!

I use my fury 733 for finesse jigs with 30 braid to 15 floro works great the 734 would probably be ok for heavier jigs 1/2 or better

Tyler Gable i was you last year. Buy 3 or 4 brownish football head jigs and a bag of 4 inch double tail grubs in some kind of green pumpkin. Spend your money on your rod. You have to be able to feel the double tap jig hit. It’s crazy fun once you stop missing fish. It will take a few days to recognize a jig hit. You have to pay attention. I had to put my beer down to really jig fish. Oh, and fish slower on the bottom than you ever thought. Have fun - tight lines my friend.

Flukemaster has a beginner series playlist. It’s covers the very basics, like what hooks and soft plastics to start with. Don’t make the mistake I made when starting out by watching every TB video thinking it will all click eventually. It’s too much info to process without time on the water to sort it all out. Your eyes will cross, ur head will explode and ur left more confused than when u started. Just get some hooks, bullet weights and soft plastics. Practice casting and aiming and feeling/differentiating the bottom terrain. You’ll be better off for it in the spring when bites pick back up.

Kathy Matheny, great post - you are absolutely correct. I bought tons of gear when I first started that I will never need or use thanks to watching too many videos. Now I am finding out what works for me. Love jig fishing - took some time to get effective at it though. I’m not good by any means, but I will catch a few in a day. The jig bite is my favorite - since I’m relatively new to it, I have better luck with lighter wire hooks. 🎣

John Schroeder most folks with decent fishing tutorial channels have been fishing since they were youngsters. They don’t remember the most basic of basic info newbies need because it’s all become second nature to them. It was a struggle to get adequately dumbed-down info for me to even get the right hooks. My friends would say just get some hooks and worms. So I bought the hooks I remembered using as a kid when the bait was crickets and red wigglers...if only those hooks worked for senkos. Lol The beginner series by Flukemaster came out after I’d gotten thru the very beginner phase, but glad others can have some better guidance before getting on the water the first time.
