Hey, would long line trolling jigs work in this lake this time of year (October)? Thinking of trying this lake. Have only have bass fished it, but itching to get some specks!

Absolutely! I started out long lining minnows on this lake many years ago and always did well. They’ll eat jigs too no doubt. I think this last front should have the water temps closer to where they need to be, so you should do well long lining!

have you tried in lake hernando because i have tried to find specks but i cant find them

I've only fished it once this season and didn't do well at all. Last year I got some up in the weeds on the main lake, but didn't really bail them. Tsala Apopka chain isn't the best for jigging (in my experience). Always have done better with minnows.

Love that lake, been there a few times and it’s super cool. Have you ever fished silver lake in Brooksville for specks? Curious on if you thought it was any good or not. I believe it also connects to the river.

Can't say that I have, but a good buddy of mine talks about going there a lot. Him and his Dad used to camp there often when he was a youngin'. It definitely connects to the Withlacoochee. It's quite a bit further south than I've fished, but I have no doubt there are specks in there. I'd just be looking for that dollarweed and jigging all up in it.

Did you change your jig head or tweak the hook after losing a few fish? Seems like the hook has bent a little or something? I’m going to the big O next week too. I haven’t been there before so I’m studying up! Thanks for the needed information. More please!

It would appear that they did some spraying based upon the looks of the weeds and pads. If so thats the difference. Find some places they didnt spray and see the difference.

It’s definitely possible they sprayed, but I could tell a lot was from the freezes we had prior. I edited out a LOT of nice green grass I fished with no success, so they were just spread out and moving it seemed. Also had to fight the vegetation on the bottom (see it hung up on my trolling motor) in a lot of good looking spots that were just not possible to troll through.
