Hands down, this is the best of ANY Prince protege! Jill does an excellent turn at bringing out the obvious sexuality, but also the yearning for someone to understand her. That's exactly what Prince wanted to convey, and she was the only one who could do it

love how Prince can write a melancholy song about the G Spot

Played this album to smithereens in 88 when I got my first job at a pop music organisation in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Didn't play Prince much, but this, Sheila E, The Time, Wendy and Lisa... loved it ! ;-p

Love this! Thanks for sharing. Can't believe I missed it back in the day, when I had Prince's version on a vinyl bootleg. I like that it keeps the funky synthesized horn part from the original that runs throughout the second half of the track, despite the addition of the real horn section.

Every prince song sounds very prince to me. This reminds me of sugar walls, screams of passion, and nasty girl. All different artists but remarkably similar sounds.

@@djnitetrain6171 Yes, Nard did so much in his lifetime. I have compiled a playlist of the songs that he performed on and there’s so much more. I was a huge fan of Angie starting when she was Angie B (with Sugarhill Records) and we both loved Jill in Purple Rain. It was our favorite movie when we were engaged and married in 1984.

It’s practically the same backing track from the 83/4 version but swapping out the linn drum sound was a mistake - that drum bass combo drove the original
