Jill, I'm loving these short tip segments. I'm 72 and an experienced cook, baker. Etc and still.learning from you. Always read you couldn't freeze potatoes unless mashed with lots of butter and sour cream. Then you showed us how .

Used carrot water is great for orchids helping them stay in bloom/add onion brown peels for a rooting hormone

Hi Jill! Your tutorial was so easy to follow. I’m going to harvest my carrots today and give some to my neighbor and freeze a bunch and keep some refrigerated. Thanks for showing us how easy freezing carrots is. ❤️

Oh wow! I'm so happy to hear this. It is such a breeze to do and the carrots hold up beautifully. They don't take as long to cook once they are frozen. Hope you have good luck with this way of freezing carrots.

Thank you for sharing! Question- Is it necessary to freeze them on a cookie sheet before putting them in a bag? I was going to vac seal them and want to know if I should freeze them before bagging and sealing. Thank you!!
@Jill4Today Жыл бұрын
The reason I spread these out is to make sure they don't stick together once bagged up. If you are planning on bagging with a food saver type of process, I'd really think pre-freezing them would be the way to go. Hope that helpd

Senior citizen here. I love carrots and like to add them to a "raw" veggie plate, but now that I'm older, I tend to get indigestion from some raw vegetables like carrots. Blanching for 2 minutes has fixed that problem! Do the ice bath just like Jill shows you, drain and keep in jar in refrigerator. They last about a week. I also do blanch for green beans, broccoli, cauliflower for "raw" veggie plate.

How cool is that!! Thank you so much for sharing a different way to use the blanching method in a new way that helps with dietary needs. Great idea!!

Would they last longer in the freezer with the food saver sealer??
@Jill4Today2 жыл бұрын
It certainly would help with freezer burn. I'd pre-freeze the carrots and then food saver them.

@@Jill4Today I'm still looking/shopping for a food saver. Yesterday at Lowes I bought a 16cf whirlpool chest freezer, 275.00 off & free delivery. I did freeze stuff out of my garden last year and filled up a very small freezer that was given to me. The freezer burn is real. Have you done a video on your food saver. I want one that has the attachment for jars....I sure enjoy your channel.

@@sherrystacyrn589 Hi Sherry -- yes, I did a video on the Food Saver. Here's a link for you. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHvXnoKclrljm5I. We still have this one. It's been such a good investment and a great appliance to have in our home. Hope that helps.

Doesn’t blanching take away the crunchiness ? What is the best storage option when you still want your carrot crunchy

@Jill4TodayАй бұрын
Yes! You can. They freeze quite well. Use them in soup, stews, etc. They won't be like fresh carrots, more like par cooked

No need to blanch if stored in chest freezer. Freezers with defrost features destroy food quite quickly.

It may be long but there are many pieces of tried and true over time in the video. The old saying is, if you want someone to remember what is said, you say it 3 times in a few minutes. Well worth the watch. Thanks you for the video darling.
