I remember watching and listening to Jim and Jesse and the Virginia Boys on television back in the day. I heard them play 'Freight Train', I was immediately hooked. Probably my favorite song by Jim and Jesse. The song 'Freight Train' was written by Elizabeth Cotten , I think around the 1930s era. Tough times. I never heard it before but I think it's a classic. Jim and Jesse did the song justice and made Elizabeth Cotten proud.R I P Elizabeth, I have always remembered you since then.

How does Jesse's mandolin tuning differ from the standard tuning? If anyone knows the answer, I would appreciate a response as Jesse Mcreynolds is my biggest mandolin role model.
@stephenhelton28822 жыл бұрын
Standard tuning. Cross picking makes the difference. I've been fortunate enough to pick on it a little.

@@stephenhelton2882 Note also that Jesse uses his "split string" technique once in a while, that is fretting each string of a pair individually.
@tometheridge4711 Жыл бұрын
@@stephenhelton2882 Crosspicking makes no difference with what sounds like cross-tuning...what you are hearing is two notes played on two strings (which are normally played in unison)...this was accomplished by Jesse using his pinky fingernail on ONE of the A or D strings while playing a different note with a different finger (very nearly impossible) on the other string in the pair...referred to as "split-string" because the pair of unison strings are used as two different strings...very, very few people have been able to do this at all, and nobody has mastered it and incorporated it into their playing except Jesse....("sounds like it's more of ya' " -Frank Wakefield, in reference to cross-tuning)...my favorite Jesse recording has plenty of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqvHeGyJjpKdl6c

That is a harmonica player. Damn
@bouffant-girl Жыл бұрын
The legendary Roy Acuff once said that Mike Stephen's was the only harmonica player to play with his whole body, not just his hands and mouth. Mr. Acuff really enjoyed watching Mike's whole body moving as Mike played his harmonica! Even though Dizzy Dean gave Roy the moniker, King of Country Music, Roy didn't really enjoy being called the King of Country Music. In Roy's opinion, God was the only true King of Anything or Anywhere. Roy Acuff was definitely imperfect, like each and every one of us,but Mr Acuff was Saved by the Grace of God, and definitely a Christian gentleman! Rest in Heaven, Roy Claxton Acuff!

Benny Hinn, good one. I remember watching him, I think on TBN years ago. He was a classic in his own way. The wrong way.

Who is playing Banjo ?
@sheilatackett84664 жыл бұрын
Jimmy Campbell on fiddle, Jesse McReynolds on mandolin, Jim McReynolds on guitar, Raymond McLain on the banjo. I think the bass player's name is Perkins. I don't remember his first name for sure, but I think it's Jack.
@sheilatackett84664 жыл бұрын
Correction, the bass player's name is Ray, and I believe his last name is Kirkland.
