I always felt like she never stopped loving him. Even Lee turned her back on him and not just in season 3. After Lee became sane again, she still kept get distance from Jim and worked against him. But Barbara never really did. She may not have let on in a manner that seemed like she cared, but at the end of the day, when Jim needed her, she was there, every time. She had one major moment of weakness. She told Him to share his life with her, he did, and she panicked cause it was more than she had bargained for. She ran off and got with someone else. But that 1 lapse cost her. Jim tried to get her back but she stayed stubborn for to long. But she never stopped caring about him, even if she masked her feelings in sarcasm
