Finkle's mom was played by Alice Drummond: a woefully underappreciated character actor with credits on over 70 films, including Ghostbusters, Awakenings, and Synecdoche NY. She acted alongside some of Hollywood's greats, and I always get so sad when I see her pop up in iconic movies, 'cause she never got the props she deserved. 😢

@blinkachu5275
@blinkachu5275 Жыл бұрын
I mean, because it isn't I'm trans and Ray Finkle transforming himself into Louis Einhorn isn't a knock on transpeople, because Finkle isn't trans. He just used Louis Einhorn's identity as a way to get revenge, and had gotten surgeries to sell that identity more. What interests me is how Finkle got to be police chief lmao, like how does that happen Anyone who says that this movie is anti-gay/anti-trans just because Ace is not gay and doesn't like the idea of having kissed a man who had disguised themselves as a woman, doesn't understand what is actually anti-gay/anti-trans.

@@blinkachu5275 how do you know he isn't trans? Just because he had revenge on his mind doesn't mean he isn't also identifying as a woman. He even spent time in a mental institute prior to transitioning so it is plausible. And if you think there is a difference for a straight man to kiss a "man disguising as a woman" and a transwoman, guess what? They are the same thing to a straight man. The only difference is self perception. It doesn't change reality.

Jim Carrey based Ace Ventura on a smart bird such as a cockatiel or a parakeet of some kind. The clothing picked was meant to be like a colourful bird, a tropical bird. The walk and other movements were also bird-like; even the hair style was meant to be resembling a cockatoo.

Yes! He found out that Anthony Hopkins used pretty much the same method to get in character for Hannibal Lecter. Hopkins based it on spiders and snakes for their meticulous way of getting their prey. They were having dinner when he found out about it, Carey said that while Hopkins was explaining it, he went slowly into Lecter's character. That must've been something. All of this was explained by Carey in "Inside the Actor's Studio".

As a child, my dad was "kind" enough to implant the fandom of the Miami Dolphins upon me. Being born in 1990, I never really had an opportunity to see the team have any real success. By the time this movie came out, I was living in southern Texas, at the absolute PEAK of the Dallas Cowboys fame, when they truly were "America's Team". Me, a silly little kid going to school in my Dan Marino jersey, I was often the butt of jokes. It was so extraordinarily gratifying when this movie came out, and the Dolphins were considered a cool team for a little while after that. It's the closest I've come (until the last year or two) to actually getting to brag about my team fandom. I can never let go of that, and this film will always rest somewhere wholesome in my heart. This movie is, in a nutshell, my childhood. I watched it endlessly with my father, and there was a brief time when I called it my favorite. It's wildly silly, mostly forgettable (with the exception of literally everything Jim Carrey does on screen), and it genuinely cemented my position as a fan of a sports team, and provided extensive opportunities with my father. I love it.

Funny film, the transphobia in it was emotionally scarring when I was a kid. Keep in mind though that whilst it's fine to be somewhat repelled when realising that someone you have kissed and/or found attractive is trans, it becomes a problem when a very large portion of depictions of trans people (trans women in particular) end up being disgusting, evil, perverted, etc... A big reason there's so much transphobia in the world is down to really poor representation of trans people and this movie did so much damage. Even the idea of trans women's existance was so waroed by transphobia back then that films, tv shows and other media were almost completely unable to differentiate between literal trans women, transvestites, and villains that were disguising themselves to deceive. The non-existant definitions between the depictions made it very easy for the general public to link transness with villainy and sexual perversion, almost to the point of making it so that the concept of trans people are warped right from the start.

No you don't talk too much. You're so adorable, I wish I could watch a movie with you and just exchange opinions and ideas with each other. You just seem like a fun person to hangout with 😊.

4:01 Wait a minute that's Mark Margolis holy shit! Didn't know Hector Salamanca was part of the Ace Ventura universe. I have a feeling Saul and Ace would get along just fine.

The fist of the three Jim Carrey movies that made his career skyrocket in 1994. The script for an Ace Ventura movie was or has been around for a while. But no comic actors really knew how to tackle it. Jim Carrey took the idea and ran with it. And yes, there is a 3rd Ace Ventura movie. But it's a VHS movie and one of the 'Jim Carrey-less' trilogy movie sequels without Jim Carrey. None of the three had worked and were really bad. Ace Ventura Jr. was one of those three, and it was bad. The other two were Son of the Mask and Dumb and Dumberer. Neither worked out well.

The scene you refer to where the racoon falls to their death is in the sequel. It's making fun of a scene (a parody) from the movie Cliffhanger staring Sylvester Stallone.

Jim Carrey was PERFECT for this movie. It was literally a role that only he could have pulled off. This was one of my favorite movies growing up and I've seen it more times than I can count. And you were thinking of the 2nd movie with the raccoon, but hopefully you react to that as well because it goes to another level with the wackiness. Jim Carrey was the 90's.

Recently found your channel and been enjoying every video since... Harry Potter I think was my first ones when i started watching you, been binging all your videos since then. I never found it at all that you talked to much it's very interesting to hear your opinion and how you analyse and solving mysteries as it goes etc! Ace Ventura was also one of my childhood movies, so happy you reacted to this, can't wait for the second movie! Did you know the Cartoon series The Mask there is an episode where Ace Ventura is in like a cameo? Pretty funny how he was the Mask in the movie as well at the same time and he nailed that movie as well with his wacky personality and improvs!

7:32 Ace worked for the police, but quit for the animals. That explains why the police know him, that he can enter and leave the police station whenever he wants and his talent as a detective.

You had the advantage in knowing Jim Carry; I never saw him before this movie; the moment I sat down, I spent the whole movie laughing my head off.
