Jim Chambers Flintlock Rifle Build- The Early Lancaster Pennsylvania Rifle
Take a trip with me as I build my first flintlock rifle. The Jim Chambers Flintlock kits are know in the industry as one of the best available and the most historically correct. I visited his shop in Candler, North Carolina to pick out my stock and meet his daughter Barbie. This will be the first of several videos on my progress as I build this rifle.
The Lancaster rifle represents the early but fully developed Lancaster style of architecture at its finest, with a high, straight comb, slender wrist and forestock, and wide-flat butt plate. Lancaster rifles were used all along the frontier in Pennsylvania before and during the Revolutionary War and were carried west into Ohio and Kentucky and south into Virginia, Tennessee and the Carolinas after the Revolution. The Lancaster is a pleasure to look at as well as to shoot.

Black powder is a great sport to be involved in. I wish people would more involved in it where I live, but they are not. No muzzle loading shows. Only have to rely on KZbin. Don't even know of any builders in SEQ.

I just had ordered the Isaac Haines kit on Monday from Jim Chambers with a rice barrel in a .54 caliber. Looking forward to getting and putting it together. I've never built a gun before, so I'm gonna be where your at right now. I weld for living and can do about anything with metal. I'm sure my welding fabrication experience will give the skills I need to build a gun.

I’ve gotten to the point of adding the relief carving and that’s where I’ve stopped. Trying to get the courage to sink the first gouge.

Almost afraid to really start on it. Never did one before and don’t want to screw it up. I did draw file the barrel…hope I did it right…
