And honestly, I consider that accusation terribly suspect based on her retelling of the story on Dark Side of the Ring. Moolah - literally worse than New Jack. All we know about New Jack is that he stabbed a few dudes and gave a few receipts and says he's done a lot more than that (but he's a wrestler so obviously it's a work) - Moolah destroyed the lives and careers of people with potential and passion for the business. People who stepped into the ring with New Jack were already fucked to be in that situation to begin with and let's put things in context, New Jack isn't even the 100th wrestler to stab some dudes in the ring and not even in the top 500 for beatings. He's just the only wrestler to actually make that part of the business his gimmick - that's the Cornette magic rubbing off on him I guess.

I only got to see Moolah at the tail end of her regular in- ring career (the Rock & Wrestling Connection) & honestly I never got her popularity as an attraction. Great heel character & could cut good promos. Played the "bitch" well, but Gail Kim she was not. Hell, she wasn't Aja Kong, Dump Matsumoto or YOSHIKO either. Do I believe the stories concerning her exploiting & screwing over her crew? Yeah, but Corney's accurate that a LOT of people in the business, male & female, did too. Doesn't make it right, but that came w/the territory at that time. Now, I DO hear people say Mae Young was nice & treated her colleagues w/ respect, in addition to being legitimately tough (taking a Bubba Ray table bomb at 90? I would NOT like to have done a shootfight w/her!). When the bad press hit the Moolah battle royal, WWE could've dodged complete embarrassment by sticking HER name on it! Hell, they could've thrown Wendy Richter's name on it as an apology for the "Spider Lady" screwjob!

I've never been a fan of the online social media dweebs, they generally love to pick out little details of others activities, remove all the historical contexts, and throw shallow judgements mostly to the benefit of their own self-righteousness. Moolah was not a nice person, no denying that, no real defending it, and dedicating the womens battle royal to her was probably a mistake (though one already fixed). But you know what makes monsters? Usually other monsters. What if I told you Moolah's original name was closer to the truth than you'd ever like to know? Slave Girl Moolah, 16 years old and pretty, at the mercy of the wrestlers and promoters who expected her to earn her paychecks in other ways. Who do you turn to if you're in that situation? Family? If she had any worth anything she wouldn't have been Slave Girl Moolah. The police? In the 40s most police didn't consider Rape a crime unless the victim or her family were wealthy or connected or the alleged rapist was black, and they generally didn't care what happened between wrestlers and "carny folk" back then anyway. How long before you realize you can survive by either being content to be the Slave or resolve yourself to be the one holding the Leash? Again, not an excuse, Moolah's alleged actions have long surpassed any excuse, it's just the larger story
@fuzzydunlop79286 жыл бұрын

That attitude has become waaay too common these days. As in suffering people being content to be the ones holding leashes. Look at the mess politics is in these days and how many sellouts there are in the media. I can understand the impulse to save yourself and let the rest sort itself out, I get that. I'm just not sure I could look myself in the mirror the next day. At some point the cycle has to end. And if the victims keep turning into victimisers them maybe its on the rest of us to call them all out and let the rest sort itself.
