@adamrobinette5093 9 жыл бұрын
lee graves The thing is, because of how talent is developed, as is to day, they're not when it comes to promo experience, 10 years from now, they'll be just as crappy. Performers are told what to say line by line, and so they never really develop the ability to work the crowd, feel them, and switch gears if they need to. No different to why the in ring product is suffering because matches aren't called in the ring anymore. Now, regardless of whether two performers are losing the crowd the rehearsed match isn't being changed. Almost every major moment in pro wrestling history came through spontaneous thinking on the part of the performers.

Adam Robinette it was natural though. Even though he was searching for words and kind of stuttering on others it was just like you and I talking and having a conversation and not reading a script and going word by word which a lot of guys today do. Worked for me.

I miss these interviews that WWF (now WWE) had. Mean Gean is one of a kind indeed. I recall being a little girl waiting for these promos and interviews, these were the best entertainment around. It was the right amount of drama and entertainment there is. Thank you for posting part of my childhood here.

i think the reason these old promos work is because the wrestlers look relaxed and natural. the problem with todays wrestlers promo is it sounds like they try so hard to sound relaxed and look and sound unnatural.

+radioclash84 Yes, very true. No one does the mic like the old guys did. Some are just obnoxious and ridiculous -- think of Enzo Amore or even The Rock; their gimmick is wearing thin.

+radioclash84 I gotta question...are scripted promos from the WWE a necessity for WWE corporate, y'know kind of like the stockholders idea. Or are scripted promos just Vince's idea because his ego stung from past wrestlers nailing unscripted promos and making him look near useless for creativity.

Greg Thomas Therein lies the problem. Everyone is a "Superstar." Everyone has entrance music, merchandise, pyro, video montage, catchphrase, bright colors, over the top gimmick, etc., etc. Over saturated nonsense. No room for subtlety. Rarely ever an organic, non-scripted moment.

I will say about Mean Gene the same thing I said about Bobby Heenan: These people are not replaced when we lose them. If people wonder why the world of pro wrestling is less than it used to be, the answer lies in the fact that we have lost too many people like Mean Gene. People who weren't wrestlers per se, but they enriched the world of wrestling by being involved with it. And now they are gone and wrestling is much diminished by their absence.
