Historian definition. "An expert in or student of history, especially that of a particular period, geographical region, or social phenomenon. i.e a military historian" In this case we are for a wrestling historian. That's something that describes Jim Cornette perfectly as he has studied the history of professional wrestling as much as anyone has. He has also authored and co-authored some wrestling history books.

Let's go, tell me if he has ever come even close to having the success of Paul E, with ecw, Eric B with wcw,Vince M with wwe now Cody R with aew, HHH with nxt. He loves to bash everyone on the creative side of the business and has all the awnsers, but what has he ever done creatively when he had the chance with wcw, wwe, tna? @@diameadozen diameadozen Smokey Mountain Wrestling, OVW, he's managed some of the best, his passion for the business and knowledge is enough in my book. Like I said before, it doesn't matter if your successful or not, as long as your goal is to strive for what's best for the business, is enough to be successful. Success doesn't mean that you win all the time. Success to me is having a goal, a vision, doing it full hearted, winning or losing. Let me ask you something, would you like to run a company that is a mess, but is successfull. Or, rather run a company that's has the same vision from the beginning, you know what you strive for, the goal is clear, every employee know their role, but fails in the end?...

Jim Cornette, whether you hate him or love him, believe this or not is the product of what professional wrestling is suppose to be about. @mak0321 It's a bit complicated because every territory had its own rules, but basically, these guys wrestled almost every day even back then, sometimes twice a day on the weekends. A lot of these guys that came up in the business in the 70s have talked about how they'd wrestle at one town in the morning, then get in a car and drive all day to wrestle another show at night in a different town. They'd just bounce from town to town in the territory working house shows if there wasn't a TV taping; that's actually where a lot of their promo work and refinement of the move set was done. Often, a veteran was placed with a rookie/younger wrestler to serve as a mentor/travel buddy, so they could talk shop during the drives between shows. However, there was a lot more emphasis on wrestling as a story-telling, especially with kayfabe in place. The advent of cable made it more of a soap opera, and when Vince essentially killed kayfabe in the early 90s, it was a matter of time before the product lost its luster. Watch a WWE show now, and the crowd is fucking dead more often than not, unless there's some stupid high spot where the wrestler damn near kills himself (thank ECW and its slack-jawed fanbase for making that a feature of the business).

@@antoniochasten3192 Believe me, it has sucked a lot longer than 10 years. One of my favorite old-time matches is an old VHS of Paul Boesch's promotion featuring Dusty Rhodes vs. Maniac Mark Lewin. The match is remarkable because they do 3 or 4 spots and spend the WHOLE rest of the match just working the crowd clockwise...and the crowd is going APESHIT. The people are up out of their seats raising enormous hell, and everybody's just too worked up to realize how little those two really did. Nobody in the business today can do magical shit like that.

He’s a cranky old man when he’s talking about modern in ring action, but he knows everything about the business. A lot of respect for him.

I would love for vice land to do a doc on corny. Take us through his collection that would make a wrestling museum blush. Have him give us wrestling history, etc. like the “gold dust trio” says one sentence about it now I gotta do homework lol

I do not agree with Cornette on politics or religion, but, I would love to sit with him over a meal and just talk wrestling. He is the one of the smartest minds in the business. I could listen to him tell a stories all day.

I have Marcus Griffin's book. It's a fascinating read but it does exaggerate some info on the Gold Dust Trio. Steve Yohe's biography of Ed Lewis serves as a great companion piece. I think the footnotes which point out the skewed info in Fall Guys is still available on wrestling-titles for the beta version of the book.

Cornette may be the greatest wrestling mind alive today. This is a guy who never wrestled himself (one-off gimmick match with Heyman aside), but all the greats of his era have the deepest respect for his knowledge and expertise. Cornette is awesome.
