If the Halloween Havoc angle happened, it would have worked for them two okay enough. They probably hoped by that point that Russo would be out of the picture for being insufferable. Oops. It's too bad Bischoff didn't ask Hogan for that extra lawsuit money to buy WCW from WCW.

The worst part about Russo's booking in WCW is that he didn't realize, by having the commentators say things like "we didn't go over that in production meetings" or "that wasn't on the format sheet", it makes it look more scripted and preplanned, showing it's not a shoot, and it was supposed to happen that way.😂
@flyguy7825
@flyguy7825 Жыл бұрын
He just told you his booking method was crash TV, the Jerry Springer approach. So it doesn't surprise me one bit. But I will say if it wasn't for him, I don't Think Booker T would have ever been looked at as a main event guy because let's face it as long as Hogan was in that company. He was going to be world champion for as long as he was in that company off and on what I found profoundly about this whole entire story is that if Hogan really wanted to make somebody he could have made either Jeff Jarrett or Booker T.

As it was happening, Sunny Ono filed a lawsuit and seemingly overnight, Stevie Ray was a commentator and Booker T was about to become Champion. It didn’t have nearly as much to do with Russo as Russo claims. Jarrett was Russo’s guy. And Jarrett had no business having the belt in the first place. Hogan did pull his trump card, but he lied for years about it being the first time he did it (Hogan is the biggest liar. Russo is just the most delusional and Bischoff is the typical BS business man who starts to believe his own BS), though he did do more good than Cornette will ever give him credit for.

Russo saying that no good person is in the wrestling business is a huge lie in of itself. Molly Holly, Owen Hart, Chyna (during her WWE run), Ivory, Mick Foley, Brodie Lee, Bray Wyatt, Bobby Eaton, Awesome Kong, Herb Simmons, Sam Muchnick, Larry Matysik, Kurt Angle (nowadays), The Miz, Eddie Guerrero (even in spite of his drug issues in the early 2000’s) are good people that were/are in the business off the top of my head. There are many more of course. That quote of Russo’s is more of an Indictment on himself rather than the business.

But then for the next two years, it bottomed out. You can't honestly say that the Macho/Hogan going over 15 guys in a triple cage or Hogan vs The Butcher at Starrcade 94 were monstrous hits. Business didn't pick up again until Flair/Macho in early 1996. Then came The Outsiders angle. But Hogan always left strategically when he knew the ratings would suffer against both sports pre-emptment and MNF drops. Ergo, he could then argue that he was the reason they faltered or drew (as in the Goldberg Georgia Dome match, which was originally going to be non-televised).

I still feel like this incident exposes Jeff Jarrett - everything we need to know about him is contained in this incident. He went along with it. He didn't try to do something else. He didn't raise hell. He was going to do what Russo said because he needed Russo. AND he brought Russo back - what, once or twice more, in TNA to do the same kind of nonsense and ruin another company.

I think one of the root problems with Vince Russo, based on what I got from his comments on this episode, is that he fundamentally thinks that none of this matters. In his view, it's wrestling. And therefore, not important. Not worth taking seriously. And so, when people in the business who do take it seriously (Like Jim, like Jarrett) step up to him, he can't see them as legitimate people, they have to be morons who think wrestling's real. Russo is the type of person who can't understand why people mourn the deaths of celebrities they've never met because he can't understand how a performance can be emotionally effecting and stick with a person for a long time. He just can't get it.

That's why Jim doesn't like him. Jim eats breathe and shits wrestling. Russo doesn't. Russo wants to be a script writer but got stuck in wrestling.

Jim isn't so innocent either. He has admitted to threatening to end Russo's life over what at the end of the day is scripted entertainment. If you want to end a coworker's life over a professional disagreement, you need serious psychological treatment 🤷‍♂️

@@brandonizaguirre2963He's but threatened Russo "over what at the end of the day is scripted entertainment". He hates Russo because of he's unbearable. He worked to try and get Corvette fired. He's not only a moron, he's one of those morons who thinks he's smart. He's callous. He's a rank individual. As Cornette said in the Brawl for All episode, he is morally bankrupt. He claims he heard Bradshaw claiming to be tough, and he admitted enjoying seeing Bradshaw get hurt. A bunch of other guys got hurt too. I don't know if you like Russo, if you are Russo, if you hate Cornette, or why all your comments are crapping on Cornette. But most normal people can't tolerate more than a minute of Russo talking on any subject. And even if Cornette wanted to kill Russo purely over wrestling, which he doesn't, so what ? People kill each other for all sorts of reasons. They'll get killed for ten dollars. They'll get killed for a meal. That doesn't mean the killer needs psychological help. It means the person they killer was in the wrong place or did the wrong thing at the wrong time. You know Russo has a channel right ? Your comments would be better received there.

Or the ramifications of hus booking decisions that could ruin someone. The last season Jim said he will piss on Russo's grave and hate is a hell of a motivation because of Russo's underestimating wrestling as its importance.

18:00 The reason Russo was sent home from WCW in late-99 was that ratings were still terrible and Russo wanted to hotshot the title onto Tank Abbott of all people. They finally had enough and relieved him of his duties putting Kevin Sullivan in charge of a booking committee. Famously this cost WCW of Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko and Saturn who all walked because they hated Sullivan.
@televiper11

Which is ironic because Sullivan booked all of them really well in 1996. Sullivan doesn’t get enough credit for being the Booker of WCW’s hottest period.

Vince Russo has probably the best timing of anybody in pro wrestling history. The peak of his career as a head writer was based on the dumb luck of stumbling upon TWO different once in a lifetime talents in a promotion simultaneously along with a healthy crop of other guys who could justifiably be in a main event spot. His position was almost fail-proof.

This is a dumb take. He didn't inherit two once in a lifetime talents. Stone Cold Steve Austin was the Ringmaster and The Rock was Rocky Maivia and was being hated and booed out of the building. Vince Russo wrote the shows and the storylines for every character. Stone Cold contributed nothing creatively. If he didn't like something and then was asked what he wanted to do, he would say he didn't know and to figure it out, which Stone Cold admitted this himself.
