Roman just comes off far too smug and entitled. No one likes that, those are heel qualities. I don't care how good looking he is, or what role Vince sees him as. WWE has to get away from what they see as the 'right' look for a star. The audience decides who's a star, period. They said they wanted Daniel Bryan, and WWE was smart enough to eventually listen. I can't fathom how it's not booking 101 to listen to your goddamn audience. Part of what made The Rock such a star was that he fed off of the energy of the audience, and knew how to deliver what they wanted to see. Roman Reigns doesn't know how to do that. He's not the next Rock, no matter how much you want him to be. How about the 20 or so guys that the audience DID decide they liked over the past 5 years they you buried or let fade away? Does WWE just not like making money or something? I don't understand it.

WWE didn't want to strap a rocket onto Daniel Bryan for exactly the reasons that history has played out; he's highly injury prone and therefore not totally dependable. He's a FANTASTIC high midcareer. To use the famous Al Snow quote, he's one of the best in the business at being the "guy that helps sell the tickets." But Daniel Bryan can't be the top guy solely because he's not the kind of guy that creative can sit down in July and write out a big, long term dramatic program that starts at Summerslam and concludes at Wrestlemania that Vince knows he can bank the whole show on, because Daniel Bryan may end up out for a 2 month stretch during that time rehabbing a head injury and that's not a risk the company was willing to take. Don't get me wrong, I've got an insane amount of respect for DB. He's a fantastic promo and an even better in ring worker, but those factors don't overcome the problems I just outlined above.

[ which is correct in that you need to have a top star who can do Big time media inTs, needs to clean up nice, & they want that person to 'appeaL' cosmetically to non wrestling audience. They might be able to make Roman work if they (1) rounded out his character, (2) gave him a good rival, and (3) gave him an extended, well written story/feud. Remember that in ECW (a smart audience) Tommy Dreamer was initially boo'd by the crowd for coming off like a white meat pretty boy, but was finally able to win the crowd over through his program with Raven. Even in WWE, HBK, despite putting on good matches for years, often got boos in front of smart crowds due to his backstage reputation and role in the screwjob, but this largely stopped after 2008 when he had that epic feud with Jericho (and in Shawn's case this was going on for years). The downside is that they've been so hamfistedly and obviously attempting to get Roman over for years and most of their attempts have been so see through, but at the end of the day, people just wanna be entertained. Give him some good and clever writing and you'd be surprised.

I haven't watched WWE in 10 years. All I keep hearing is wrestling fans cry a God damn river about this Roman Reigns guy. And every complaint, and everything I've heard about him, is 100% identical to the John Cena hate that lasted about a decade until it was replaced with Roman Reigns hate. So let me ask something: why do you keep watching? Watch impact wrestling, or a million free matches on KZbin from various indie promotions. Find a good indie promotion that has a streaming service you subscribe to. Some of these promotions give you a 2 to 4 week free trial. If WWE is pissing you off, go somewhere else. People bitch about Vince ain't got any competition. Well that's your fault. Give your dollars to some other promoter. As an Impact fan, I have to agree. Impact, RoH, Rocky Mountain Pro (Which Russo books, for all the Russo people), NJPW, Stardom, All Japan, AAA, CMLL... There's more options for fans than I can even name. The only reason Vince "doesn't have competition" is because the battered spouses won't leave.

BUT it has to be real! No scripts, only guidelines from Vince etc. And Bryan is the ultimate baby face to go against him. Roman runs wild till the rumble and wins the title! Bryan wins the rumble and shows up on Raw the next night changing brands and building to Mania. Personally Roman needs to be a full heal! No shades of grey except the reality of being a corporate puppet and being sick of it! And IF the Shield reform they are also full on heals! Either way heal Roman v Bryan is the biggest match going! Bryan winning at Mania!

I have a theory. What if this one big Roman experiment by Vince wasnt a failure but a success? What if this whole time Vince wasn't trying to make a face but the ultimate heel. Think about it. His wins and losses are irrelevant at this point. How his losses and wins fail to faze his character, his "big dog" motivations, and how he works the mic need to change. Losing to Lesnar at WM or beating John "goodbye fourth wall!!" Cena have no impact. A loss to someone unexpected--Curt Hawkins ending his streak--would force a needed change in Roman's character. Beating or being defeated in the main card stymies other Superstars (the embarrassing Backlash win over Samoa Joe comes to mind) and does nothing for Roman. They have to shake up the pattern; feuding with Corbin or Mahal until eventually beating (or being beaten by) Brock Lensar fails to achieve this. Forget the mid-card, have a bottom-card guy challenge and beat, or maybe just embarrass, Roman Reigns. He doesn't have to turn heel; turn him psychotic or make him apoplectic to losing...something, anything please god please other than his d*ck swinging "this is my yard" bull.

That's one theory and certainly the one held by Jim Cornette (never mind he can draw a paycheck from professional wrestling without having to be a part of professional wrestling because of its current popularity). To me that's like saying Christmas is dead once you find out there's no Santa. The spirit of competition is only less potent if you're watching it to see who wins or, in the case of WWE's week-to-week (ie weak) booking, you're watching to see how wins and loses propel the story forward. I enjoy the storytelling, the evolution of the characters, and the competitive spirit of outdoing everything else on the card. I don't need Rey Mysterio to be a killer and TBH I don't ever want to see a Rock/Mankind I Quit match again. I loved ECW but the Guerrero/Malenko, Jerry Lynn/Rob Van Dam, Tajiri/Super Crazy matches were always more spellbinding than whatever Sandman/New Jack were doing. I didn't watch Sabu/Terry Funk barbwire match and think "Oh my God this is a real fight" as much as I thought "Oh my God these two men without employee-provided health insurance are killing each other... I hope Heyman's check didn't bounce." Here's my proof that it isn't the "reality" that makes the man. You didn't say Undertaker was a badass for throwing Foley through Hell in a Cell, you cited Foley as the badass for going through Hell in a Cell. I don't believe Roman Reigns is a badass wrecking machine, I don't find him charismatic on the microphone, and I don't enjoy watching his matches. THEY HAVE TO BOOK HIM DIFFERENTLY. (It looks like they are, maybe. His being called out for the egomania is a new direction, so here's hoping.) If he's not going to adapt as a fighter, develop as a talker, or start falling through cage ceilings they are going to have to give "big dog" some gradient as a character. He's one-note in and out of the ring. Add some notes!

I wonder if Roman could get over by addressing Dean going to aew? He could use Vince's booking to explain how it even takes the fun out of it for him and how he doesn't want to lose his passion. He could even talk a big game about how the fans don't like Vince's way and further link it into how he doesn't like the way things are going. He can go back to using his push being nothing compared to that of Vince's bitch Bork Laser just so Brock can show up when he feels like it. He should also talk up people like Kofi, Seth, plus possibly AJ busting their asses and making their opportunities. The realism could probably extend to the problems of Baron Corbin being fired because of his midcard of evil pulling in history low ratings.

Personally I don't think the WWE needs a "guy" anymore. I think having a show where they have 10 guys always capable of beating one another for the belt is the way to go. That sounds better to me than one guy always winning unless something happens like a distraction or cheating. We don't need a Hogan, Austin, Rock, or Cena era anymore. A show where Joe, Rollins, Strowman, Styles, Balor, and Heath Slater are always battling it out with great competitive fights is much better than just Roman beating everybody cleanly every night.

Def' agree! What made the Attitude Era great was the amount of guys they had vying for that top spot: Austin, the Rock, HHH, HBK, Taker, Foley, Edge, etc. It never felt redundant. Now it's like the same 3 guys constantly battling it out and it's BORING!

I like Cornette's idea. Put Reigns and Bryan in a tag team next year, then make Roman turn heel on Daniel and fucking destroy him. Roman wins the feud decissively but when HHH comes out to congratulate him he spears and powerbombs him. The next day he tells both Stephanie and Kurt Angle to go fuck themselves. He cuts a promo on Bryan, on the Shield, on the indy darlings, management, the fans, part timers, legends and everyone he can think of. He can say something like "I'm not The Rock, I'm not John Cena...I'm Roman fucking (beep of course) Reigns. He goes on to beating faces and heels alike (a la Brock Lesnar). He beats Rollins, Ambrose, Balor, Styles, Joe, Strowman, Owens, Rusev, Lashley, Sheamus...everyone there is to beat. He even punches Vince too at some point and he basically becomes an ass kicker who"s friends with nobody. If not even that would get him over, he'd have to simply leave WWE and go somewhere else.

This is just my opinion and I could be wrong but.. I think if Roman leaves and goes to the indies like Drew Macentyre, and goes and looses and earns his wins and looses ocassionally basically shows hes not handed anything. When he returns just like Drew people will look at him like its now different hes ane of the boys not "Vince's boy". And his move set is just like the Miz move set, it sucks. He needs a move set that is more creative than the wwe cockie cutter soft style formula of moves! I would even consider puting him in a regular tag team in the INDIES where he is FIGHTING for the team and not for himself. He can develop as a character for himself and latter break away when the oportunity presents itself. TAKE HIM AWAY FROM THOSE WRITTERS AND WWE! THEY ARE SABOTAGING HIM! I am not a fan of his or his work. Im sure he's nice but that is how I would advise him.

I happened to watch every once and a while but cm punk, aj styles, and nakamura get me watching again and have hope. But then i watch survivor series 2018 or 2017 the one with triple h and cena on opposite teams, that ending was the kiss of death of me never.. watching wwe programming again unless its hall of fame.

New Entrance, Theme and Character would help out Roman as a face. I know Samoans have been portrayed as tribal warriors but it could work with Roman. It would have worked with Umaga if they would have pushed him as a bad ass face.

The reason why people who were once insanely over failed like roman and big cass was because cass had enzo and roman was part of the shield. The problem is WWE try's to double up on there money to quick they say man these guys make lots of money in merchandise sells when there on the same shirt just imagine how much more money we could make if they all had there own merchandise then wwe breaks them up BUT were they fuck up was the timing of breaking those teams up costing themselves millions in merch sells if roman had the chance to develop and build his character with the shield just a lil bit longer he would be over one great case of this is brey wyatt he had the correct amount of time and his team was not broken up until the perfect moment and circumstances which is why to this day he is not only over but his xteam mates are also over my point is in the wrestling industry TIMING IS EVERYTHING and if u botch it dont try to fix it you have to totally repackage the guy with a new persona and hopefully get the timing right next time which The Miz is a great example of.

I think the best example of why Roman Reigns is failing so badly at getting over can be summed up with the Undertaker. The Undertaker *Didn't* become the locker room general by Vince McMahon declaring him that. He became that because of his work ethic & personality. Also, Undertaker didn't announce that the ring was *His Yard* before he was highly respected both in the back with the boys as well as with the fans. For Undertaker to say it no one was going to shit on it because *he'd earned respect!* Roman Reigns is the embodiment of an entitled millennial that is being given everything on a silver platter. I hate to say it but without doing a major angle with Daniel Bryant like Jim Cornette had said I don't see how anything with Roman Reigns can work out in a positive way!

This is how they get Roman over ..pick out the city that is most hostile place for Roman and try get crowd so loud that he can't do promo in the ring...Roman gets pissed off and tell audience to go hell and throw mic down...as Roman starts walking to leave the ring Stephanie comes out and stops him from leaving... Stephanie starts yelling at audience but Roman gets in her face and says "This is you and your Father's Fault for putting me in this position" and on and on.. Stephanie starts crying and slaps him in the face and runs out of the ring...Roman takes minute or two to yell at fans as he leaves ring...that's it for first night about this story...I haven't figured out the next week's follow up but I will...I'm sure this will work!
