As a landscaper and avid gardener I swear by Jim Green. Great boots you can beat up on without feeling guilty about the price tag and they hold up surprisingly well. I average almost 8 miles a day in my boots and I’m just short of 18 months with my razorbacks. Not a single structural issue with the boot so far.

Interesting. I'm also a landscaper and looking for a summer boot. How do these hold up to minor wetness? Walking in grass and running irrigation etc
@InGrindWeCrust2010 Жыл бұрын
@@BOOGiNS The fudge finish is waxed so has some water resistance. You can treat the other finishes pretty easily (wax for smooth or spray for fudge or khaki roughout). It's designed for dry weather (I've got a fiberboard footbed wet before and it sucks). They make another waterproof model.

I really didn't have a need for a Jim Green until I started looking for a Chelsea that could come in a wide. I already had the Red Wing Heritage Chelseas in a wide, but decided to take a chance on the Jim Greens Stockman in a half size larger as most reviews indicate they come wide. The construction feels basic, with the sanding of the sole and welt a bit rough, but the materials and actual workmanship is rugged. I think that they are a great option for lower priced resolable boots, along with Thorogood and Thursday.

I've had a pair for 2 years now and they're my favorite pair of boots. I walk in them (in the woods) about 5 miles 6 days a week and will send them back likely in another year for a resole. I have also bought two pairs of their Vellies and the Town and Country all of those boots are excellent and comfortable right out of the box. The insole finally gave out about a month ago so I just replaced it with another insole and we were good to go. Go with your sneaker size. I wear 11 in Red Wing and went with a 12 in my razorbacks. Buy a pair you'll love them. I was initially put off the boot when I first put them on b/c they look so wide but interestingly enough they only look that way to the person wearing them, everyone else I asked about it said they look great. I treated them with sno-seal and they take polish great and they basically water-proof if you have to be out in the rain. The padded tongue and ankle make it so that I can lace up tight and not worry at all the trail you'll have solid footing no matter the terrain.

I bought 2 pairs of Jim green a year or so ago. I forgot exactly when I got them but I see the price has gone way up. Anyway, I call them the perfect width footwear because they are the perfect width for my foot. The only thing I do not like is the sole is convex causing some discomfort when walking on flat heard surfaces like concrete. However for hiking they are great. Oh and that convex is from right to left not front to back in other words from big toe to little toe. Because of the convex it feels like the big toe and little toe does not even touch the ground but the middle of the foot does.

Go true to size. Unfortunately, I followed the website foot measurement guidelines, downsized and I have a tight fit. That said, the boots are great for the money ($150). I got the brown leather, and while they are not waterproof, if you use mink oil they are virtually waterproof. The footbed is hard however so get insoles.

The short African rangers are actually significantly different than razorbacks, they lack a leather lining, are made of multiple panels of leather, and have a toe cap, the only real similarity is the last, the 8 inch rangers are basically just tall razorbacks though.
@chinatownboy74828 ай бұрын
The Razorback is double lasted. The African Ranger only has a single layer midsole which the upper is stitched down to. The Razorback also has a steel toe model. Even if you don't need a steel toe, the steel toe will keep the toe shape long after the synthetic Thermoplastic toe puff has worn away.

Very low paid individuals who can't afford to buy the boots. African Rangers should be about half the price. They are made with smaller pieces of leather, have no lining, and they are not double lasted like the Razorback. You are essentially paying for the pair that they are giving away. If you do not like that, then do not support the program. I haven't. I don't feel bad about it either. I can't buy shoes for everyone.
