Exactly, Australians can still own guns, but there are restrictions, must be bolt action , max 6 round mags. If you're a farmer hunter etc you can get one , there are strict licensing rules , storage, mental checks.

Exactly. In germany we are allowed to own guns. But we need a background check and licence. Then there ar regulations of the amount and kinds of weapons someone's allowed to own. Without a special licence, for example certain security jobs, money transports or bodyguards(sometimes), you're not allowed to carry a gun in public, open or concealed. There's also a limit to the amounts of rifles you're allowed to own (I think its 3) except if you're a licenced huntsmen (hunting law requires the right gun for the right prey). Semi automatic rifles are generally forbidden, semi automatic pistols are allowed. Full automatic is generally forbidden. We really really barely have gun violence in germany. Mostly suicides. But it's so miniscule in comparison. So gun regulation makes ALOT of sense!

the big problem is the amount of guns already in circulation in the US. it's hard to roll something back when there's 300million+ people and just as many guns. if it was done many decades ago there would have been more of a chance. the overall concept is correct though - you're the country in the western world with the most mass shootings and gun violence, coupled with the highest rate of imprisonment per capita in the western world.
