With Slade we had Noddy's voice & Don's drums, Dave's outfits but the most talented of the band was undoubtedly Jim Lea.

Jim sounds great......wrote most of their songs didn't he? Slade were one of the best bands to ever come out of the UK!
@en53kff2 жыл бұрын
Yes, he’s sounding pretty good and proves he can really make that guitar sing. The Holder / Lea song writing partnership was on par I think with Lennon / McCartney which made them the biggest UK selling band of the 70’s and also made their presence felt during their resurgence in popularity in the early 1980’s after blowing away the competition on the stage of the 1980 Reading Festival. They were best ‘live’ and always made sure their audience left the gig having had a bloody good time.

I sneaked out of the house to go to see them in 1973 after my parents had forbidden it. It was the very first time I defied them and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. After that I realised parents dont always know best and I started to make my own decisions.

Well Kim, it must have made a real impact if 47 years on you still remember it with fondness. I'm glad you got to see them as many of their fans today never did. Many of them too young and some weren't even born. I saw them many times myself before they eventually went their separate ways and consider myself very fortunate that I have great memories.

@@en53kff Thanks 😊Besides being one of the best gigs I've ever seen, it changed my life. I was brought up in a suffocatingly strict environment and though I continued to treat my parents and their wishes with respect, it did teach me to trust my own jugment. The last time I saw Slade was in the early 1980's. The ticket office was just across the road from Liverpool's Central Library where I worked so I went to buy tickets in my lunch hour. I was all dressed up in my work gear, nice dress, sensible shoes, nice make up - typical librarian. The guy who sold me the tickets felt compelled to warn me that I might be making a mistake by getting tickets for the hall and not the balcony. "It gets a bit rough there," he said. I didn't notice but it must have got pretty rough as my boyfriend made his escape and waited for me outside 😂 I do feel sorry for fans who've never had the experience of being knocked off their feet by a blast from Slade's sound system but it's nice that video footage is so readily available on KZbin. I hope your hearing survived it better than mine did though! I took my son to see The Stones and Ozzy, they won't be performing forever and I want him to experience as many of these legends as he can while there's time.
