I love that it starts off like the scribbles of a mad man and then it ends up bing an awesome drawing of Black Canary.

He's so liberal with his eraser. I don't erase nearly that much! But that's why he's a pro. That willingness to try and fail and just as quickly try again.

While Jim was attacking the abdomen, at first it looked like certain parts were being overworked. But after getting a look at the finished piece, it blew me away. The silhouette lighting on the leather freaking blows me away. I especially like the highlighting on Canary's ribcage. F***ing solid work. Jim Lee gets me every time. Love this stream. Legend indeed.

Jim Lee has always been my favorite artist. Growing up I've always drawn and read comic books and loved a lot of different art but I went through favorites like a paper shredder. Then when I was a bout 15, 16 years old I came across one of Jim's X-Men comics and ever since then I took art seriously and Jim has been my favorite.

I think it was Marc Silvestri who said: "It's not like being in sports and having to hang it up. You really have no excuse." The most striking thing to me was Lee going through a phase of art that was not his signature style. I didn't like it but admired him for going there. Then there was a vid of him drawing Raven (?) from DC, which was different from this, and had shown just how much he had grown. He's apparently 54 now, so 40s if not older when he completely changed gears. Very inspirational.

I think (however pointless the observations may be) that Jim Lee draws his women's heads too big, and it's something David Finch, possibly from his long association with ALL the guys at Image, does the same. Thus, all female characters look like juveniles with overly sexualized, pre-teen bodies. Oh Jim, save all the Wildstorm stable from kinky weirdness! It's all up to you! ;)
