Jim Montgomery Seriously Considering Starting Jeremy Swayman In Game 4 | Bruins Interview

However, head coach Jim Montgomery is considering giving Ullmark a night off in game 4 due to his heavy workload and a nagging physical ailment. So we could see, Jeremy Swayman in net for game 4.

I've mentioned a couple of times in recent comments that the Bruins would be making a mistake to not continue their winning formula of rotating Ullmark and Swayman as they had been doing in the regular season. I can already see how it is negatively affecting Ullmark's play that they have gone to putting him as the number one and only. If it ain't broke...

Having Swayman start today's game makes so much sense. If he starts that gives Ullmark a nice long rest (next game is Wednesday thanks to Celtics game on Tuesday night so that's 5 days Ullmark would rest). It's not like Sway is a pos goalie. Plus Florida has probably studied up on Ullmark's play & may not be as prepared for Sway in goal.

Swayman’s a good backup. If he’s hot, he can play at a starter level. But he needs to work on his consistency. Playoffs isn’t the time to test that.

He’s more then a good back up this year he was 4th in Gaa and Save% 16 in wins. 82 career starts 54 wins 920 save 2.24 GAA. Linus played out of his mind and was best goalie in league but sway would start for about 20 teams.

Well I would rather them put in a healthy swayman for one game to get ulllmark some extra rest to recover from the flu or a nagging bump or bruise. It’s only one game, worst case the series gets tied 2-2

Will that’s true but Ullmark is still the better goaltender and it’s not necessarily close. In the playoffs you start the goaltender that gives you the biggest chance to win the playoff game and that is Linus Ullmark. If he’s hurt or sick then I’m fine with Swayman playing but publicly there is no proof of that and he should otherwise be playing 100% of the playoff games he is healthy for. There are no back to backs in the playoffs and this ain’t the regular season

@@Bruins-vq5ey Swayman is a very hot and cold goaltender. At the beginning of the season his save percentage was steadily below .900, and he lacks the experience Ullmark has. If he can work on his consistency he’ll be a lot better.

Where is the proof of that? Last night he posted a shutout for like 55 minutes. Rest him if he needs to be rested BUT if he doesn’t then he should play 100% of the playoff games because he is by far the better goaltender

Changing goalies in the playoffs is a fools errand.. unless there's injury or poor performance..if swayman plays great and gets a shutout,now you have a goalie controversy and you're gonna be 2nd guessing who to start next game.. If swayman plays ok and the bruins lose, Monty becomes the scapegoat for sitting the obvious vezina winning goalie.. how many games did Rask play during the Tim Thomas led cup run again? 🤔

different situations. Tim Thomas was feeling 100% and was playing lights out. He stole several games throughtout that 2011 playoff series. Rask seemed like he didn't always gel perfectly with the rest of the team. Compared to now where Ullmark and Swayman appear to have the best goalie chemistry in history, not even a rumor of controversy between them, and both at or near the top of their position league-wide. Ullmark is battling sickness, no reason not to let him rest a game and give Swayman some playoff experience. With a positive mentality everyone benefits, Ullmark doesn't have to feel guilty or overly stressed to perform, Swayman doesn't have to enter this game with a do-or-die mentality and can ease into the flow of playoff hockey (think of what Cassidy did to Vladar). The team as a whole doesn't have to play any differently no matter who is in net. Hell maybe more aggressively with Swayman cause he actually enjoys 1v1/breakaways. Fan noise is nothing but noise to them. All armchair coaches should be ignored because only they actually know the situation in the locker room and between the players.

I don't know how I feel about this... Yes: goalies need rest. But risking a level series by putting Sway in the net for the first time since the 13th makes me a little weary just because of rust and overall save percentage. If push comes to shove: I'll take Linus. 🇸🇪

I think since Ullmark and swayman has been switching every game or every other game this might be longest ullmark played in a row all season? I could be wrong and I know swayman can handle himself just worried because swayman either lets in 1 goal or 7 no in between and the games he lets in more than 4 he mostly loses.

Swayman was 24-6-4 with a .920 save % this season. He's more than capable.

Rest Krejci until Game 5. The chance to get 4 extra days of rest is too good to pass up. The focus s/b to make sure both he and Bergeron are both fully ready, otherwise they risk aggravating their injuries and missing more games - esp. with the Panthers hard hitting, because you they will be targeted. I’s just not worth it-the Bs showed that they can win convincingly w/o them-as long as they play Bruins hockey. IMO, they are unbeatable when they play their game. As far as Ullmark or Swayman- I would let Ullmark resolve whatever injury is nagging him for the next 4 days. He needs to be as close to 100% as he can be in order to make a serious Cup run. The Panthers will come out strong and desperate today and they are not above running the goalie. And the way the Bs played Game 3, I don't see Swayman as a step down.

He may very well know something I don’t know but unless Ullmark is hurt or some thing is legitimately nagging him (with longer-term implications not just sickness) then I would play him every possible game of the playoffs and not overthink this. Which could absolutely be the case, i’m just saying. Unless he isn’t 100% it should be Ullmark EVERY game

If he is HURT then this conversation changes entirely but I don’t see why everybody is straight up assuming that. For what it’s worth Montgomery alluded to him just being sick. He said whatever small thing happened in game 81 or 82 was no longer an issue. I know they’re probably just saying stuff and you’re right nobody has 100% but unless playing him tonight would actually negatively impact his performance moving forward then he should be in. I think everybody is overthinking this. Ullmark is just simply better

I totally agree and understand all the people that don’t feel confident with Swayman in net, I’ve been watching the team all year and the script definitely flipped, ullmark has definitely earned his stripes as a dependable starter. However, this isn’t Swayman’s first playoff appearance. Has he been shakey, yup, but this could be a good confidence booster for him and the rest of the team. In a perfect world I’d have Ullmark starting every game, but in this situation I can understand where Montgomery is coming from. Swayman isn't a total bum, he knows how to get the job done, he just needs defensive support and to execute.
