In order for India to compete with China, they not only have to set up factories and train workers, there's an entire behind the scene ecosystem that complements their industries. From central & local government support to vocational & educational support to logistics and infrastructure systems. Then there are the allied industries that supply and enhance that sector. That's why they are the world's factory and India isn't... despite them being on equal footing a decade ago.

@John-yx6yz Not to mention that India has a considerable shortfall in their average IQ compared to China. Roughly a whole standard deviation lower infact and it perhaps might get worse as time goes on due to a mass exodus of some of the richer and more intelligent folks in the country migrating to the West (mostly anglosphere nations). That means it's possible for them to take some of the lower rungs of manufacturing job's away from the Chinese over the coming decade's but not any of the mid and high tier stuff to any significant degree, and it's worth noting that due to advancements in AI and robotics it very well will probably become cheaper to automate that entire level of manufacturing away rather than outsource it to human labor in a country like India. I just don't foresee them ever accomplishing the same feat of rapid industrialization and development that China was capable of undertaking (not surprising considering that really no other nation in history has to quite that extent). And if they do become a big player economically on the world stage some day it'll be a very slow going process until they reach that point in say 50-100 years time most likely and might primarily be due to the simple fact that they were still having kid's when the rest of the world largely wasn't rather than anything else.

America may be the most powerful country on the planet as Joe Bidden claimed it, after the most powerful, however, where is it going to go? As a cliff climber , having reached the summit, only way is down down. Of course, up is much fun than down, which is less fun and more difficult. In contrast, China is the only country with 5,000 year continuous civilization in world history. It has more than 3,000 year written history, which has deeply influenced many countries, such as Korea, Japan, Vietnam and inner Asia nations to a degree. It’s not coincidental that China is the dominant power in most of previous 3,000 years in East Asia. The fact that US has played a hegemonic role in East Asia since the end of WWII is anomalous and unlikely to last long. In its long history, China experienced many setbacks and even endued a major breakdown in 220 AD (The end of East Han Dynasty and the beginning of Three Kingdoms’ age) to 581 AD (Sui Dynasty, reunited China Proper) The barbarians, who occupied northern China for 300 years (approximate 317-581 AD), were totally assimilated by the Chinese in the end. The reason is very simple: when nomads settled down, they had to learn and accept the advanced farming skills accompanied with relevant Chinese civilization such as the Chinese calendar regarding when to sow and reap. Needless to say, only the Chinese have a unique written system that is able to afford complicated philosophy, literature, technology and religion et al. Like a phoenix, China is always reborn from ashes. Almost every educated Chinese has remembered Confucius’ (551-479 BC) teaching: “The Master said: A gentleman is diligent in his office and prudent in his speech.” (1.14 , The Analects of Confucius, Translated and Notes by Simon Leys, published by Norton 1997)/君子敏于事而慎于言

Rogers is right here. Taiwan is historically a part of China, the U.S. and 190 nations acknowledge this in the “One China Policy”, and official U.S. policy is to oppose Taiwanese independence. Ethnically, Taiwan is 95% Han Chinese, Mandarin is the spoken and written language, and the cultural values are virtually the same. Why wouldn’t Taiwan be re-integrated with the mainland over time? This was unfinished business from 1949 at the end of the Chinese civil war. I don’t think PRC will ever use military force on Taiwan, btw. It will just make economic sense for reintegration on both sides of Taiwan Strait and no war need happen. Again, Rogers is right, and China will wait and remain patient, unless the U.S. meddles too much and encourages Taiwan to declare formal independence. Then all bets are off.

Sorry to tell the truth, Taiwan is already part of China, Taiwan currently is a province of the Republic of China (R.O.C.), that's another China, but still... it's China. That's why the US declares that it doesn't support the independence of Taiwan, because Taiwan is just a province of the Republic of China right now.

Some argue taiwan is roc and therefore it is prc that divide china. However this is not true. The last president of roc was li zhongren. And chiang regime in taiwan did not start until a month after the roc government surrender. So the regime in taiwan is not the 2nd roc. Remember there is beiyang which is the 1st government to call themselves roc. Just because you call yourself roc doesn't mean you are the same republic. The nanjing government never recognise any treaties sign by beiyang. In fact the one china policy was started by kmt to avoid being responsible for any debt incurred by beiyang. If you sell weapons to beiyang to fight kmt. Why should kmt pay u after defeating beiyang? The one china policy is a legal policy to deal with civil war debt. To force country to pick winner and not play both side. PRC just adopted the policy.
@lagrangewei
@lagrangewei 3 ай бұрын
The issue is few Chinese can explain or understand the policy of the civil war. Without knowledge of the entire civil war from a non political pov. It difficult to understand the reality. Both government avoid this fact because they both want a more heroic narrative. But the legal reality is the Taiwan regime is just an upstart that attempted to brand itself as the government of roc after roc has already collapsed. And by submitting the one china policy to UN, the Taiwan regime lock itself into the Chinese civil war. They unfortunately need to pay the price of denying prc representation as china for 3 decades.

Taiwan is an Island that is apart of ROC, know as Republic of China(Similar to Eastern Germany before the merge). The official name for Taiwan is ROC. Taiwan has an Airline called China Airline... The mainland is People's Republic of China - PRC. The country got separated during the Chinese Civil war, much like Germany did after ww2. With everything, some people are against it, but also some are for it, but on both sides, the ROC and PRC, their institutions have the whole China included mainland and Taiwan as part of one China, there is absolutely no ambiguity in this.

No matter how much people argue, Taiwan is considered a unique entity due to its distinctive political system, legal framework, presidential position, military, and the identity of its people. These two entities do not have jurisdiction over each other, and globally, Taiwanese passports are not recognized as Chinese passports. Historically, during the Qing Dynasty, Taiwan was under Qing rule, with only the western part being governed by the Qing, while the eastern part was inhabited by Taiwanese indigenous peoples. After the end of Japanese rule, Taiwan became part of the Republic of China, also known as Taiwan, rather than the People's Republic of China. The establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949 further solidified Taiwan's status as an independent entity.

Taiwan has never been part of China. The nationalists fleeing there after the war doesn't make it China. China always had trade relations with Taiwan, but it was never Chinese. It had a population of native islanders who lived there until the Japanese took it over in ww2. They were exterminated to the last man by the Japanese. After that, the nationalists fled there. The majority of people in Taiwan may be of Chinese descent, but that still doesn't make it China. Never has been, and I hope never will be.

@craigrik "maybe Taiwan won't reintegrate with China in th..." If surveys are anything to go by, short of invasion, Taiwan will never agree to absorption by a communist China. Theelection wasn't only about China's threats of invasion. Taiwan is a democracy, Taiwanese get to chose their governments, not have them imposed upon them. Just because electors vote for parties favoured by CCP doesn't mean they want to become part of CCP China. Politics is more complicated than the fairy stories you believe.

@craigrik "Maybe Taiwan won't reintegrate ..." Reintegrate ? The closest Taiwan ever came to integration with mainland china is when both were part of the Japanese empire ! The issues in the Feb elections were not restricted to the CCP China issue, although the pinkys in Comments would have you believe otherwise. Taiwan is a democracy, like Australia. The China threat is huge but the Taiwanese have lived with that for decades and are prepared for invasion, life doesn't stop because winnie shoots off his mouth and plays brinkmanship. Like Australia, the issues included low wages (particularly for young people and laborers), high living costs (particularly housing prices), insufficient public facilities, transportation and education, social care system, care for preschool children and the elderly. Lai was elected despite winnie's threats.

There is more to election than just relationship with China. It doesn’t mean 60 percents are more pro unification nor 40 percent pro independence. It is just as ridiculous to say majority of Americans support abortion when republicans takes presidency.

Real estate crisis is a good example of free market (no government intervention) gone amok. Greed will always destroy society. To cure an ailment, country needs to take the bitter pill. Many speculators and property developers need to pay for their irrational exuberance and greed. Bankruptcy on a corporate and personal level will rise. But in the long term the society will be in a much better position.

That's a very good point about the United States suffering serious setbacks while they were gradually rising to become the global hegemon. Just 15 years or so before they became the dominant power in the world they went through the great depression and largely did not recover until after WW2 when they took that position. It's unpredictable what might happen in the long run with China even if they do face significant economic challenges or recessions in the short term.

Jim Roger is right. If one reads history, we discovered Qing Emperor waited and the Ming Dynasty General and King guarding Taiwan reunited with mainland China. The civil war that was reignited between RoC and PRC back in 1949 would have ended then according to history of not for the interference of 7th Fleet despatched to stop Mao Army from crossing over. So PRC like Qing Emperor will wait and reunification is inevitable and IMO it will be peacefully with external forces and interference. So basically when the neocons talked about war, it will be one between China and yoU-Snakes And recently Chinese hawks have indicated that if that happened then the war will reached yoU-Snakes mainland. Scary, huh. That is the only thing they understand and not just sinking 2 U$ N Aircraft Carrier alone. That is the only message they understand.

China would continue with its policy of reunification with Taiwan as it has the time & resources to accomplish that. There is always the need for the Taiwanese people to consider their future on the question of reunification without resorting to outright conflict between the two sides. However, those who advocate for the island’s independence with the encouragement from certain foreign powers, could only end up in dismay & an utterly disastrous situation upon which the island may not recover. !
