HHH had a superior physique to Punk. Fine. Moving on and ignoring the means by which HHH attained that physique, Punk was superior to HHH in other areas. For instance, Punk could convey more information in a 5min promo than HHH was able to in one of his infamous 15min show-openers ... not to mention that Punk promos were far more entertaining. That remark pissed me off because Punk couldn't roast HHH back given the latter's position, so he had to box with his hands behind his back so to speak. But maybe that was the intention all along. HHH is a great heel, and that comment drew heat, so you could argue he did his job perfectly. I didn't care for it though.

Vince McMahon trained a whole generation that wrestler equals oiled up bodybuilder. No matter what CM Punk did, he was never going to be accepted by the fans and the guys in the business who had been trained in that way of thinking. HHH fully accepted that mindset. His road to success was getting on the juice and getting that cut look. His wife has evolved to have an even more freakish non-human look. CM Punk wasn't perfect, but the good thing about him was that he was at least something different. He was certainly better what we have today which is a bunch of interchangable action figures all with the same general look reading the bad scripts of second-string TV writers.

That match was awesome, and it was awesome because of both of them. And Triple H was well past his physical prime in that match, and wasn't an active wrestler by then. And he was STILL good. The trouble with Triple H is that he rarely wants to be good. He's fully content to do half hour promo segments where basically nothing happens, or do main events on Raw that basically consist of 3 moves. If he was always putting in the effort that he did on that Daniel Bryan match, and all the other classics he had, he might be viewed in a more favorable light This all doesn't take any of the politics into consideration (real or imagined), but those also effect how people view him as well.

When I watched the match I thought that was the best opener I had seen (I never saw Bret vs Owen live). So as you attested when Triple H is motivated he can give you a match of the year. Vs Rock (Summerslam 98), vs Shawn (Summerslam 02), Mania 20, Batista hell in a cell, Taker Mania 27 and 28 vs Foley (Rumble 2000, No way out 2000). He has had classics that his haters tend to ignore. However what annoys me about Triple H is that he always wants to be seen as the guy. Like even in DX Shawn was always pinned if DX lost. He won too many titles, matches that sucked (Orton Mania 25, I actually slept watching the match), there are too many opening segments that I skipped because of him and the reign of terror. These are the things that deny him GOAT status. But all in all he is a great legend but he could have been better. Yes he has been political but I believe some people make it to be too much of a big deal.

Hearing that politics held CM Punk is so wack I remember that promo of his straight edge society and it’s one reason why I didn’t get into punk with me being a Rey fan too. Since he feuded with him but that moment when he took that girl out of the audience and shaved her head, was crossing the fine line of real and entertainment for me as a kid.

Listening to this after last night, where Edge opened THE GO HOME SHOW BEFORE SUMMERSLAM with a meh promo and where the results for all matches are so obvious it's not even worth watching, while CM Punk made his return to such acclaim and love last night is just *chef kiss*. Punk should have been pushed as hard as Stone Cold and WWE would have had a money printing machine on their hands.

It’s sad that there were plenty of better looking guys in wee that were never given a shot but were much bigger and muscular I personally don’t think a wwe champion should look normal, You can be short and muscular ,,, but 6ft and skinny with no definition ? Fast forward a few years and punk has alienated himself out of AEW. Common denominator here is that punk has an ego problem and thinks he’s owed everything. One of the longest wwe title reigns ever and a mania match with taker wasn’t enough apparently. Weird that hhh had great success with NXT and great relationships with basically every other wrestler he’s worked with in recent years, but the one guy he had a poor relationship also had a poor relationship with his AEW co workers despite also being given success there, and very quickly too. Also apparently wasn’t handed enough success in AEW for him to be a professional. also calling yourself Phil and calling HHH Paul doesn’t mean you’re cutting a great promo, it means you’re cutting a promo that Vince Russo would write. I swear after punk did the original pipebomb everyone just misremembered that all his promos were that good

Both Flair and Austin had great cardio, they just didn't have that typical roided up bodybuilder look these sorts of guys like. Austin was more on the muscular side, but he definitely had a slightly more "every man" sort of physique, some fat on him, no abs, etc, certainly compared to his contemporaries like Rock and Triple H

Punk is one of the most over rated wrestlers of all time. In ring he's no angle/hbk/benoit etc, charisma wise he's not Austin, mic wise he's not the rock, body wise he's barley Gilberg. Boring and bland

CM Punk is one of the most overrated wrestlers that I can remember. In ring work. Good not great, mic work is ok. Not great . Mostly just bitched . He wasn't entertaining on the mic like the Rock or Stone Cold or Even Randy Savage. His physique sucked. Most of his popularity came from basement dwelling neck beards.
