I thought Funk was going to kill Ric Flair in 1989. That piledriver on the table at WrestleWar convinced 10 year old me that Flair wasn't going to be around long.

Funk came off as that evil, and Flair that sympathetic. Such a well done feud outside of the finish. Everything else though was amazing.

I grew up in Albany, the promotion and marketing for the Troy I quit match must of been squashed by Vince Mchamon or done piss poor by WCW/NWA. I never knew the match was even taking place in Troy,I wouldve loved to seen it as a 10 year old.

Flair, Steamboat, Funker - we could only wish, we could have this type of wrestlers today.. and Flair was completely something else. So many wrestlers never wanted to have the pressure of a NWA-Champion, travelling all the territories, defending the belt in one hour matching. Flair loved it...

Overall that PPV was not good BUT the match, Flair vs Funk, THAT WAS A MAIN EVENT!! I remember Funker walking up the isle & Flair RUNNING after him, JUMPING on Funk's back & punching him. As a kid, I'm like "OH ITS ON!!" Was this also the match where Flair Irish whipped Funk & he slid across a table & hit his head on a chair or the railing? Classic match!! ** I remember their Bash match & their I Quit. Obviously the I QUIT match is GREATNESS!! Hope I'm not confusing the 2 matches

Ok, my thoughts- Gary Hart- evil genius (actually a great booker- read his book, WOW!) Flair vs Funk- had to really stretch to get people to cheer Flair, not since Nikita Koloff sickled David Crockett had people been this much behind him. Funk was great, seemed really homicidal. Muta- really got shafted- one of the best ever. I read too often that this guy or that guy should have been champion, but Muta really should have. And losing all three of the round-robin matches was just crappy. Solie vs JR- they covered different times in the business so I won't choose one over the other, but these 2 and Lance Russell are the head-and-shoulders-above-the-rest best commentators ever.

The I Quit match wasn’t the best match. It was still good but just not great. Everything else though, in this feud, was perfect. It started as soon as Flair’s other one ended and was hot the whole time.
