Excellent and informative video. Very well presented. I recently bought a vintage Montesa that has had an ongoing and stubborn idle issue. Your video helped me understand the circuits and I realized it was missing an O ring. I also did not know that the mixture screw controls fuel vs. air. I also discovered that the float level had been set incorrectly, by placing the carb upside down while measuring the dimension, when it should be placed on its end. This makes a big difference as when its upside down the weight of the floats compresses the spring on the fuel inlet valve and puts the fuel level about 3/16" lower than it should be. Now running perfectly. Thank you for making the effort to record this helpful video.

Great video Jim! 📽💪🏼. Thank you for sharing your knowledge on Dellorto carburetors . Also amazing sound effects you can really imagine the engine doing that sound. Great to know about the 3 1/2 turns in the fuel screw. What can you tell us about the position of the clip in the needle of the slide? Is there a clip position you recommend? Thanks !

Nice video Jim, thanks for sharing your experience. I just picked up a '95 JT 25 with a '95 350 motor, it has a nice idle and pulls well from idle, however as the revs increase (with a load) it doesn't seem to pull as well, I wouldn't call it a bog, it just doesn't seem to pull as hard. I know not a lot of info, but does this sound more carb or timing related? (I'm at 4000 ft) Thanks

Hi jim Thanks for great videos. One quick question if you don't mind. I'we gotten my bike to idle and up to about middle throttle to run smoothly. But when i turn full throttle the engine dies down. I have to hold full throttle for 5-10 seconds before it manages to rev up. I thought it might be the needle letting to much gas in so I tried to lower the needle on the clip. One notch up on the clip. ( needle lower) it is running a little better. two notch down and i have trouble keeping it running. So I put the clip on the needle on the second lowest notch, where it is running the best, adjusted fuelmix and idle to where the engine idles nicely and revs up nicely when I give the throttle a quick turn. But still full throttle and holding it there the engine dies down a couple of seconds before reving up. Any Ideas? Thanks in advance and keep up the good work -Norway-

Hello, That's a tough one, but a good description of the problem you are having. It sounds like a lean condition (too much air, or too little gas) Is it possible that you have an air leak? The rubber intake manifold perhaps. (And take a close look at your reed valve petals also.) Or some type of fuel supply starvation. Perhaps the vent on the fuel cap of the tank is obstructed or has been turned around by accident and is not allowing the tank to breath. regards, Jim

Hi thanks for your answer. It was actually flooding that was the problem. The previous owner did for some reason drill the main jet. I don't know why he would do this. New jet installed and everything is working perfect :) Thanks your your feedback.

could do anything that he would be in my country right now, looking at my carburetor. question : On 6th gear on a 70cc, geared, 21mm dellorto carb moped, when i hit 80-90km/h sometimes on a higher throttle if i want to go faster the speed goes down, the throttle doesnt work anymore, unless i release it abit and then hit alittle gas again. Carb is always wet on the bottom and the airfilter pipe has small signs of gas leak Aaand it always shoots oils and abit petrol through the excaust, not a crazy amount but yeah. Please help.
@TRIALSPARTSUSA
@TRIALSPARTSUSA 8 жыл бұрын
+Peachy ❆ Hi, First of all, it's a "moped" so they are by nature "slimy little devils" and they are notorious for clogged exhaust pipes and grime and oil and gas dripping. Those little Dellorto carburetors are much more primitive than this one in the video. Your problem sounds like "fuel starvation" so you have perhaps some type of obstruction that prevents the float bowl from refilling as fast as the engine consumes the fuel. It could also be your fuel tank vent is clogged (the gas cap not venting for example) If it is dripping and leaking gas, then perhaps you need to take it all apart and place a new gasket kit and floats etc. regards, Jim

Great video My bike wont idle unless the choke is on. I suspect a clogged pilot Jet. What do you think? Unless i missed it you dont talk about the pilot jet in your video. Thanks 2008 Serco 125
@TRIALSPARTSUSA
@TRIALSPARTSUSA 5 жыл бұрын
Hello, I suspect you are correct. When a motorcycle sits for long periods (winter storage for example) it is common for the pilot and/or main jet to become obstructed and needing to be cleaned. And your symptom you describe is almost certainly an obstructed pilot jet. The video was made assuming that the carburetor is clean or has been cleaned. In hindsight, I could have also added a section about cleaning the carburetor before trying to make any adjustments. Thank you for watching.
