I've been looking for this for ages and, hooray, it has been found! The song itself is pretty interesting but it is the first time Steinman has used (at least public-ally) the iconic 'turn around bright eyes' line. Enjoy!

I've been looking for this song too, wonderful to hear the proto-Total Eclipse of the Heart, sung by none other than Jim Steinman himself!

omg awesome. He did write the original "turn around" that we all know and love, but this song eventually is featured both ways on Braver Than we Are. Well, in an amalgamated form. I love that album so much because it does mix the past and the future so much and shows how they have grown and gotten old together.

you can see the progression from this song to this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pajZkJaCaMeHerc Yes. That is Jim Steinman and he wrote the song. You can then see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5LQkKeqisSli68 this is skull of your country. Nice way to dig up old things and bring it full circle!

Jim Steinman used the 'turn around bright eyes' line on 2 songs 'Total Eclipse of the heart' and what became 'Skull of your country ' as seen on Meatloaf album Braver than we are, only part of the original song was used, but Jim was notorious for reusing lyrics in different songs and sometimes use them several times

You can really hear the beginnings of what would later become Steinman trademarks, even if the song itself isn't all that.

Heard a similar version of this in 1982. Ted neely and Eric troyer were on vocals

Based off the ITunes preview of this song, Meat Loaf's "finished" version seems like it skips the "come in the night" middle section and goes straight from the "give me a tombstone and a wreath of all your tears" line to the "turn around, Bright Eyes" lyrics. This demo version is about 3 minutes longer than the one Meat Loaf recorded for his album Braver Than We Are!

The artist we know as "Meatloaf" is an amazing voice. However, he recorded most of his best songs with Jim Steinman as his writer and composer. His song "finished" is Jim Steinman changing the words to his own songs "come in the night" and "turn around" and mashing them into one song. Braver than we Are is an exploration of time.

Are there any other versions of this songs out there? It's absolutely devastating me!!!
@majestic399210 жыл бұрын
Yeah, there's another version of come in the night, but it's the same as this (only live) and in really terrible quality. If you still want it ask and I'll upload it.
@oliviaoneill187010 жыл бұрын
Laura Majestic I would love if you uploaded it! It's a shame there isn't a better quality version out there. Did you record it personally?
@JohnnyNatrium10 жыл бұрын
Olivia O'Neill I think I might as well record this in high quality myself sometime. Meaning to make my own song of it.

+Olivia O'Neill There is another live recording of Jim performing this as the opening song in "The Dream Engine" -- his college musical from 1969. The mp3s are floating around the Jim Steinman fan community. If you're still looking, feel free to drop me a private line and I can send you a link. :)

I thought "Skull of your country" would quote from "Total Eclipse of the heart" I am surprised it is actually the other way round.

I don't believe this is on BRAVER THAN WE ARE but I love it.
