I just turned 60. Still have my original vinyl that I still listen to regularly. Can "sing" every line. Masterpiece. I have had a copy of this album and every available medium as technology "improved". Vinyl to 8 track to cassette to CD to now digital. Best money I have spent on music giving me decades of enjoyment. Thanks to Jim, Meat, and Todd.

Absolutely my favorite Meatloaf tune, and yes, I too love the lines, "Can't you see my faded Levis, bursting apart." Beautiful, thought provoking, with a hint of erotica. Doesn't get any better!

Which is a testament to the 'innocence' of that era, where the sexual innuendo was quiet and implicit. Now, it's too vulgar to print. And kids listen to it with their parents! And it's funny that he said it was his favorite too -- and I think it's the best song on a masterpiece album -- because I've read so many comments on his songs that people say the same thing. Yet, no one reacts to it. It deserves more prominence in his legacy.

Tell me i'm thinking too deep about this but, the line "You belong inside my aching heart, can't you see my faded levis bursting apart?" is not a simple proclamation of love but a backhanded confession of a young, inexperienced teen conflating love with lust. It seems the first two verses (acts 1 +2) show that he was at rock bottom and needed her as a way out and to fulfill his carnal desires but the last verse (act 3) he realises every single way in which she helped him and how the accumulation of that duty to him makes him realise EXACTLY how much he loves her. The world will never be the same without the pair of them working together. RIP Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman.

You can get a boner from love, it's not always about lust. You gotta realize this was the 70s, during practically a sexual revolution. I know that part of the album the boy at first just went for lust, but I don't believe this is a lust boner, it's a love boner.

Jim Steinman was the genius that wrote the meat loaf songs . I bought the Album , Bat out of He'll at a local record store in 1982, when I was about 14/15. His interview here, gives a clue as to why he was such a hit with most young people at the time, and remained so , with my generation, ever since!

I have always loved Jim's writing, ever since first hearing Bat out of Hell when it was released.....I was in the 8th grade, and just loved the production on the record, and the lyrics. To me, the way he juxtaposes religious, and sexual imagery, as well as death, and humour is masterful....

What I love about this song is how it promotes this connection between deep emotional love and sex. Everyone says sex should be a deep intimate thing and yet Love songs never mention sex (and vice versa). What's funny is before I saw this video (though I know what Meat Loaf looks like) I had never noticed that it could be about his weight. The only meaning I noticed was the obvious (sexual) one.

If me it's the most heart bearing song I HAVE EVER HEARD. The Levi's lyrics is a boner lyric? OH...MY...GOD 🤭. When I hear that song every time I think, why would Meat not have you change that part because of what he went through with the Levi's commercial. Every time I heard this song up until now I have been shocked that Meat kept that lyric

Of course, the levis are old now and the protagonist is not as fit.... And now i learn it was about a boner. XDDD
