This town was called Mauch Chunk before it was named as Jim Thorpe. Jim Thorpe, PA is named after an athlete named as Jim Thorpe, who was the first Native American to win a gold medal from the Olympics. In 1954, a year after Jim Thorpe passed away, Mauch Chunk and East Mauch Chunk began merging, and Mauch Chunk is what is now known today as Jim Thorpe. I've been to Jim Thorpe a lot of times, and it's a nice populous historical town. Also the county seat for Carbon County in the US state of Pennsylvania. Nice video.

Thank you! Yes, that is true. We like the name “Mauch Chunk” better but also appreciate that the town honors Jim Thorpe.

Well done video. Jim Thorpe is a gem. The jail operated until 1995 which is amazing. The history of the Old Jail museum tour really gives you a great insight of how things were done years ago. The gallows are eerie. Four of the Molly Maguires were executed there. Tours from Memorial Day to Labor Day of the jail. Asa Packer Mansion also offers tours. Asa Packer was the founder of Lehigh University. Blue Ridge winery is very nice and the views from the various outside seating arrangements are really nice. They are super packed on the weekends.

Yes! We went on Memorial Day weekend and the crowds were crazier than we expected. We really want to go back and tour the jail and the Asa Packer Mansion!
