I had a similar experience. I did not see the love of God in my parents, but I did sense the genuine care and love from my Sunday school teachers. They cared about me as a person and also showed it by their actions. This mwant much to me as a unbeliever and a young child. And my journey of faith and understanding of who God is was greatly influenced by these teachers and the pastor and his wife back in the 1970s.

I've read his book and compared it with another book written about the recorded proof and many credible witnesses that saw Jesus Christ die on the cross, rise again, and ascend into heaven and they both agree, and so do I. After reading his book, I have no feelings that he's in this to make money. I strongly feel he is led to help others that struggle with believing, find the real proof that can clear the path for their faith in Jesus!

And I definitely do not get the impression he's just pretending to believe, in order to really make money. And by the way, there's nothing WRONG with making money working at something you truly believe in. According to Paul, it's perfectly fine (1 Corinthians 9:14). Great testimony, and a bit similar to Lee Stroebel. Both were very intelligent men who in a professional sense went out to examine the Bible. Neither had any desire to become a Christian, but the weight of evidence in the scriptures led them to faith. Their lives like all of us who know him, were completely changed by Jesus Christ.

Considering that to my recollection Lee Strobel didn't interview a single non-Christian for his book The Case For Christ, I seriously doubt he was interested in dispassionate research. I feel a similar way about J Warner Wallace, who despite the gimmick ultimately uses the same recycled apologist arguments that all the others do.

It saddens me to say that pretty much the exact opposite happened to me. Going from an all out believer and follower. Being challenged to actually study it from a non biased perspective fully believing I would find confirmation of my beliefs. comparing historical records from the time, looking for archaeological evidence, anything tangible that could confirm what was written throughout the Bible and comparing Gospels, finding out who actually wrote the Gospels and when they were in fact written. I feel I was robbed of my life, I feel hurt and betrayed. The very foundation of my Life has been destroyed!

I couldn't willingly self delude, imagine making the choice to willingly give up your eyesight, for some promise of being able to see "beyond" the natural. I doubt many Christians would do it. In his book Wallace ignores all his own detective rules, he finds what he whats to see. If presented as a case in his detective years, it would be laughed out of court. The lack of evidence is disturbing. In his book Dr Wallace quotes C.j. Wereleman " We don't know when and we don't know by whom " Dr Wallace says C.J. Wereleman is correct.

Firstly, this guy really paints an unrealistic picture of atheists that tends to be only how religious people perceive them. "selfish" "realising I wasn't God" "pride in my intellect" "Openly mocking religious people" etc.. It makes me think this man was never an atheist at all but instead is an advocate for the Christian Church attempting to convert atheists by purporting to have been one and seen "The Truth". Secondly, you can't refer to your newly found BELIEFS as the "truth" They are beliefs. God asks for FAITH in him. Faith is the willingness to believe in something despite having no proof. Without proof, it is not fact. If it is not fact and you can't prove it then you cannot call it truth. Yet this man took pride in his "intelligence"? Thirdly, this video is not going to help anyone. It may influence the weak-willed, or naive who are not strong enough or committed enough to search for answers themselves. It will almost certainly provide some confirmation bias for people who already believe in God but it does not do what it was intended to do. That is to disarm atheists in the eyes of Christians by having a self proclaimed "former atheist" profess to having found "The truth". This video is nothing but religious propaganda.

I myself was a committed agnostic and skeptic when I first examined the evidence for God. I spent 8 years comparing atheism and theism before concluding that God is real. I spent another five examining numerous religious texts before concluding that the Bible was true. So no, we are not as weak willed as you think.
