It was a fad right from the start, but people that didn't regularly use Dry Ice had no clue what you have to go through to use it properly.

When the Cali Gold Rush hit, only a handful of miners made a fortune that lasted. Dozens & dozens of shop owners found fortune in supplying the workers. I think that holds true with dry ice, the sales guys that have you on a subscription for pellets & machine service stand to make wayyyyy more than your average detailer would make back in efficiency or new services to be offered. The only way for it to be genuinely profitable is to buy the machine & pellets; pay someone $20/hour to do awesome work and sell a shit ton of undercarriage cleaning. At least $300-$400 per average car. I don’t see room for it anywhere else.

And up charge for a undercoating for people in the rust belt dry ice to clean fluid film to preserve. Now will people pay that much in the market that we are in now I say no. Just bad timing just my 2 cents

It’s notoriety comes from a now well-known Southern California detailer who has high-end clientele (of which is has no shortage) that are willing to both pay for his services and his detailing methods. The results are truly amazing, but the high upfront cost and maintenance are prohibitive and not for every detailing shop.

Very good points, very high investment, very difficult to get first time customers, established businesses with experience will have the edge over detail shops

Totally agree it doesn't make much sense for detailing. Dry ice looks super awesome for cleaning intake valves on DI engines though.

I agree and coming from a first hand experience, i bought a unit and it was good but the upfront cost is pretty much high lol! meaning to reach that level of continuous cleaning. From my experience the reason i sold the unit was the hassle aka aftermath of the cleaning process and time because the unit wont be spraying wide pattern, it is more specific and etc. Long story short its not there yet, Hopefully dry ice improve on these areas and maybe i'll consider buying another unit again.

What happened to Darren from Auto Fetish Detail?

No clue - he went off on me a few years back for no reason. So I stoped talking with him after that.

Darren always came off as being too good for everyone and was condescending. His ego entered the room before he did.

I don’t see one benefit to having this in my shop. Chemicals, brushes, Steam, & air work really well lol

So true. I can buy quite a few brushes and APC for the cost of the machine, nevermind the dry ice.

You’re right and it shows in the views tbh. But I like to discuss a variety of topics. So I just enjoyed this one…now back to the regularly scheduled programming!
