Well you bought a YOST which is ductile iron and about double the tensile strength of cast iron. Good choice of design I just purchased that style myself.

Could you have used two lag bolts in the front? I have a similar bench with a 2x4 front edge and 4x4 for the leg. Should I do same thing as you did or would two lag bolts in the front be good?

Two Q's: 1) why use 1/2" lag screws instead of a 5/8" one? 2) using 1/4" for making a pilot hole for a 1/2" lag screw - is that a general guideline? beginner here, please excuse the ignorence. Thank you!
@JimbosGarage
@JimbosGarage 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Michael, Just the one blot is 1/2'' the rest are 5/8'' because that is all i had at the time, 1/4'' pilot is what i wanted to assure a good bite into the wood. It hasn't moved at all in two years. Jimbos garage!

I would really like to see a comparison between the... Yost 750DI & the Capri 10519 9000 lbs... vs ...6600 lbs clamping force 5" jaws... vs ...6" jaws 5"... vs ...5.7" jaw opening 63 lbs... vs ...57 lbs 3 yr... vs ... 10 warranty The clamping force & mass of the Yost are the biggest selling points... but the Capri's 10 year warranty, wider jaws, & jaw opening has really got me on the fence as to which one to buy. Why only a 3 yr warranty Yost?

The Yost 750-DI bench vise will bring a big smile, knowing that they still make one of the best, most versatile there are! Also installing it the correct way (as you did, imho) will give you years of safe and good work. Slow is fast...fast is smooth! Good work my friend! Hopefully a few of our young folks will recognize it!

Hi Jim, There are many vises to choose from Tekton, Bessey and I know Yost sent you a vise but did you consider any other brands? Also Yost makes a few different vises curious why you choose the 750 DI 5"? I am in need of a vise and am strongly considering the Yost but also have seen some good reviews on the Bessey and Tekton. Thanks.

Tekton, Wilton, Irwin, Yost, Stanley, Craftsman and Columbian vises are all made in our factory. The only one difference is brand.
@felixf5211
@felixf5211 6 жыл бұрын
Yi Hill , your comment is a little misleading. Both Yost and Willton make their better vises in the US. They are not made in your factory. Though Columbian is no longer around, after being purchased by Wilton in the '90s, their combination vise is made in the US by Reed. Wilton produced the same vise until ca. 2014 and then Reed took over. These are all very different designs - the difference is not solely the brand. Yes, all the inexpensive vises are made vises in Asia. Some are better than others. Not many. Models marketed as Irwin and Bessey, as an example, are junk. A hair better than a Harbor Freight vise - the absolute worst.

Reading the comments, seems like Yost is sponsoring the channel. A quality company. With this in mind, they also manufacture 'real' vises in the US starting with their Tradesman line. IIRC, they also offer a combination vise and a machinist vise in a similar series. Made in the US, as well. Curious as to why you didn't opt for a better vise? Forgive me, the first Yost vise you had wasn't exactly representative of the company's better products or their history. The 750 is a better vise than most consumer products, but a shop like yours may benefit from something more serious. Lastly, to some the vise is the centerpiece of one's shop. Yost can help with that. :)

Might be a silly question, but can I install a Vise onto a regular plastic table from a Walmart? Or does it have to be installed onto wood. I can’t afford a wood work bench right now. But I plan on using a vise to sharpen my mower blades. Awesome video!

I've been looking for a vise for a while now and I've done a lot of research on line. One complaint I keep hearing about vises made in China is that they crack or even break altogether it struck too hard. What are your thoughts on rubber washers for absorbing some impact and reducing vibration? Thanks.
@JimbosGarage
@JimbosGarage 8 жыл бұрын
+Jim Bo Thanks for watching Jim bo! Yes the vise is made in china! But is still good quality, I love the vise and all it's features. I haven't had the problem with it cracking, But mounting it to some rubber washers or gromits would not be a bad idea! Jimbos garage!

Hi Joe, Thanks for watching. I have to say that although they sent it over, I only make videos on tools I truly believe in. I've had this thing for a couple years, use it about everyday and it's truly a great product. I've not seen another one that rotates like this with this quality either. I just try to show the product so you can get a better idea of the quality and how it works before you buy one. I'm not paid or sponsored to say anything about the product, so it the companies risk to send me product and up to me to make a video about it or not. I have zero obligation to them. In a way it's good that these companies send out stuff otherwise there wouldn't be as much information out about the products we can buy. Just my two sense about it. Thanks again for watching. - Jim

Just got a 750 DI today because of this video. Its massive and well put together. Had one question on mounting. You used 5/8 through bolts. I measured the mounting holes and they are a tad under 5/8 on a caliper. Am I wrong here? Seen you put the 5/8 right through. Thanks
