It’s a VERY old prank. Your grandpa and his buddies would take you and your friends on a camping trip and tell you it was a “snipe hunt”. There is, unfortunately, no such bird (at least not in this case i know there are real snipes but this one isn’t real) They’d send you all off in different directions in the middle of the night in the woods and watch you all stumble around like dumbasses til they got bored and then either scare the hell out of you or just tell you it was fake and everybody has a nice laugh about it

@@siobhanmercer9424 I am aware of the joke, but the Snipe is portrayed as a creature that does not exist, while it does exist. It's a weak joke, if a name that didn't exist was picked it would be funny. Snipe are very difficult to hunt, so maybe that is part of the etymology.
