The album is based on the Disney comic The life and times of Scrooge McDuck illustrated by Don Rosa. We know Scrooge as the rich stingy uncle of Donald Duck. The comic is about his life before he found his lucky penny. Tuomas loves the comic, and he felt it should be accompanied by music, a soundtrack. And what do you do when you are Tuomas? You make it happen and even get Don Rosa involved. Tuomas had the chance to meet Don Rosa, who had no idea who he was. All he knew was some metalhead wanted to make a Scrooge album, and he thought he would never hear from him ever again. Untill a few years later when Tuomas contacted him, basically saying "I'm done writing the album, the orchestra is booked, wanna hear?" Rosa was actually dreading it, thinking was was going to have to pretend to like it. When he heard it for the first time, he was moved to tears. There are interviews with the both of them, talking about the whole project and how it came to be. It took Tuomas two years to make an album about a duck, he felt that wasn't the right thing for Nighwish.

Just a small nitpick: Can't be before he earns his lucky penny - since Scrooge earns that one with his first job as a shoeshiner in Glasgow at age 10... [ according to the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck :) ] I live those stories, and am very proud that Egmont (in Denmark) hired Don Rosa to draw these after Gladstone went under in the US. For Jim: Donald Duck comics is a staple in Scandinavia (and other places), and are significantly more popular than Superhero comics over here. Almost all of us have grown up reading those. Don Rosa came into fame in Duck circles (lol), because of his homage to the greatest Duck writer and artist of them all: Carl Barks. Can highly recommend for you to read: The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck - its a great read from a great artist and writer :)

Not only illustrated by, Rosa is also the writer. He developed his uncle Scrooge stories on top of the shoulders of his hero Carl Barks, who created the character Scrooge, and many of the Duckburg inhabitans, and there are also many direct references to the Barks storylines in this comic. Its storyline chronicles most of Scrooge life, according to Rosa. The lyrics to the song is based on the script of the book. This is mostly a classical album. This track is the most "rock", with that guitar solo, and the percussion section imitating a rock drum kit.

It's also worth mentioning that the Duck Tales TV series and comics have close to nothing to do with the original Scrooge McDuck character created by Carl Barks and refined by Don Rosa. I'd go so far and declare all stories with Scrooge McDuck as non-canonical. Just read the Scrooge McDuck stories by Carl Barks and Don Rosa and forget about the rest. According to Tuomas who described Don Rosa as extremely distant and reserved (and remember, Tuomas is a Finn so he's pretty introvert by himself so if he considers Don Rosa as reserved that tells a lot), Don Rosa liked the album so much that he gave Tuomas a hug.

Tuomas is a huge Disney fan. He wanted to tell a story about Scrooge Mcduck, but couldn't use the full name, because of Disney. The illustrator on the video is Don Rosa. Very famous Disney illustrator.

One of my favorit songs out there. This is typical Tuomas Holopainen work, well written, moving and beautifully arranged. And if you are familiar with the man you know you get what you expect but you also always get pleasantly surprised on top of that..

This is my go-to holiday album. Although I listen to it year round. I highly suggest listening to the album from beginning to end and immersing yourself in the story. Tuomas has created even more depth to the world that Don Rosa artfully designed and that is no small feat. Thank you for checking this out with us!

Many have already commented about Johanna Kurkela, Thomas's wife not only being the singer here but also being the singer in AURI, alongside Tuomas & Troy of Nightwish. But Johanna also has an album out with her other project, "Altamullan Road" with the other female singer here (also named Johanna) that feels a bit to me like a sister band to AURI. They have videos for three songs I believe.

"Darkwoods My Betrothed" is the name of the band. The band has been inactive for eternity, but Covid made it possible fot the guys to make a new album they've talked about for ages when they have gathered every year, in summertime I think. If I'm not mistaken Tuomas is now an official member of the band for the first time. But he is "just" a keyboard player. Tuomas also plays on the new "Kotiteollisuus" album to be released soon. He has played with Kotiteollisuus before, something like 10+ years ago or so. Edit: Please, please react to a song by Kotiteollisuus! "Kotiteollisuus Himosfestival 2010". It is a 50 minute video. React to the last song "Satu Peikoista" ("A Fairytale About Trolls") starting at 43:53. There is another video with this particular song/performance only, but with a worse audio quality. I've been thinking lately who would react to this one, hope it's going to be you. I like the song and performance so much, can't even explain why exactly.

About the context of the song, the moment it mostly reminds me of is the very end of the comic, where Scrooge is reminiscing about has past adventures, but has also regained his lust for life and his desires to go out on more treasure hunts. (It also *does* happen to be set during Christmas.) And your interpretation about the journey being worth more than the reward was very much a point made in the comic.

Sorry for my multiple comments but "true grit" in the lyrics brought something to my mind and since you have also done reactions to other kind of videos than just music videos abd since I believe you would enjoy this one, here is my siggestion: "Venninen True Grit I - A True Story 2/2", a 12 minute video. An UNBELIEVABLE, inspiring story. This old man, a Finn, Johan Venninen really has got SISU (grit, guts). He lost the sight of both eyes in two separate accidents so he was totally blind for the most of his life. You just can't believe your eyes when you see what he was able to do alone as a totally blind old man. It's crazy! And scary! The man who made the documentary was about to shit his pants. I hope you are curious enogh to react to this video, if not, at least watch it on your own, I'm sure you're gonna like it. I think it should be shown on TV in every country.

If you can get a hold of "Life and times of Scrooge" (of Scrooge McDuck), made by Don Rosa, read it :). It is one of the best works of literature ever made, winning Eisner award, and something completely different than Ducktales. The books are quite expensive nowadays though. It is the biography of Scrooge McDuck from his childhood to his deathbed (from which he once more raises with the help of Donald and especially Donalds nephews, to once more participate in the adventure of life). With this book, using the old Carl Barks comics as base and mixing in real places and people, Don Rosa makes Scrooge McDuck a real literature character with his wins and losses, sadness and strife, explaining why he became what he is. Don Rosas magnificent art is also worth mentioning. And Tuomas has said (as far as I recall) that "Life and times of Scrooge" is his most loved work of fiction ever. That is why he wanted to make a soundtrack to it, as the music was always in his head when he was reading it.
