Old Guy on a Bike

I’m deep in memories as I leave the area of Nova Scotia I grew up in. Catching glimpses of my past as I ride through my old home town of Liverpool and down the shore roads towards Lunenburg. These are familiar roads that I travelled with my family as a kid and many times with different motorcycles over the years. Always love to cross the LaHave River on the cable ferry but then get totally turned around by a series of detours. Maybe that is a metaphor for my memories? I make a stop in Mahone Bay to pick up a gift at Amos Pewter before trying to just make time heading for Cape Breton. I know I won’t make the Cabot Trail tonight and being the middle of October, night falls early. It’s going to be a hotel in New Glasgow and palns on hitting the Cabot Trail tomorrow and getting on the ferry to Newfoundland tomorrow night. This epic journey is nearing it’s end.

Even on an overcast day, shore roads can be a great ride. I try to do these ones every couple of years even though I moved from my home town 50 years ago.

Hey Jim, during my travels I have not gone down past Halifax, so it was nice to follow you along on your video. At some point I want to take 1 & 3 around the loop. In years past I have completed the Talbot Trail CCW, two times. This year I might try it in a CW direction. It never gets old. Thanks for the video. Cheers!

I love the shore roads in NS. I grew up riding them. I usually do the Trail most years either on the way from or the way back to Newfoundland. It's a lot less crowded in October.

That 1968 CL350 was owned by Dirk Van Loon…he brought it to my dad because the charging system wasnt working. My dad took it for a ride, then told me to take it for a spin because “ it was the best handling bike he had ever ridden”..so I did….down the west side of the river in Milton….

I dislike detours also but I guess the road work has to get done. I usually get lost on them. But other times found some pretty cool stuff. Like a cast iron skillet factory and a knife works factory. Bot at the same area in Tennessee. This week is the maiden voyage of the mini mate I call the “Tardis”. We’re staying at Dreher Island State Park, SC. The park is beautifully kept and the catfish are biting. Only kept one small male channel cat. The rest I released. They’re spawning. And a one and a half pound fish is plenty for my meal. Thank you for the inspiration. It got this “old guy” out for a bit. Already planning the next one. Tom

That's great Tom. I often call the MM the "Tardis"... people are surprised how big it is on the inside and how much comes out of it. I've got to start packing a fisjhing rod. I don't get a chance to fish often but it would be nice once in a while. I don't mind a detour but it would be great if the signage told me where we were detouring to.
